This little restaurant, a tiny little place, is on the outskirts of the Neil Island bazaar, on the road to the left as you come from the jetty. The family that run it were a bit quiet and subdued at first, but we had a nice meal of noodles, and when we came back for a second night they seemed to have warmed to us and were very friendly.We saw the tiniest baby lizard there too....
While staying on Neil Island we ate here several times as it was one of the few places that was open for breakfast and lunch. They did good thalis, noodles, and an absolutely superb cheese omelette! It's run by a friendly family, and seems popular with travellers.
We visited twice this place during our 4 days stay there, once for tea and for lunch when our flight was delayed for more than two hours on 13th August. The Indian lunch served by them was just superb and cooked very quickly. On 10th evening also we came to visit this property and had tea. The Indian lunch of Chicken curry, rice and accompaniments. It was a superb meal as I wanted to be light before I boared in for two hours flight.
I had many meals in this restaurnat during my four days stay at Fortune Resort Bay. Since, most of the guests stay there on American Plan basis, the food is always unlimited and at dining hall and at dining space in open air. You also have the option to order a la carte meals of your choice. Mandalay is a multi cuisine restaurant, serves Indian, Chinese, European, Mexican food of your choice made by master chef.Their breakfast is on the house and has 42 different varieties of helping both vegetarian and non- vegetarian, with fruits, fruit juices, International and Indian. I had many types of foods right from Indian, European and Mexican. But I really freaked out on Malabar Chicken and Chettinad Chicken. The chef is from Chennai and can cook any meal in a jiff. The food we had on Havelock is a mixture of Indian and Italian with a little bit of Chinese influence. Most of the Indian Dishes are vegetarian and are very good indeed - Saji Divani Handi is vegetables in a thick spicy sauce served with chapatis and yoghurt (200 rupees), Vegetable Thali is few small dishes of vegetarian - carrots, mushrooms, corn with lentils chapatis, pickle and yoghurt (excellent value at 150 rupees and enough for two), Fish Thali is similar to veg Thali but with a fish dish (250 rupees), Dum Aloo Kashmiri is pototoes stuffed with cheese and spinach in a thick spicy sauce (200 rupees).Grilled Fish in Bana Leaf is good and is served with lovely sauteed vegatables (350 rupees).Nice snacks include cheese or garlic chapatis.
