Chandigarh's shopping centre is located in sector 17 and reminds me a lot of the one in Stevenage, a modern town dating back to the 1950's near where I live in England. The whole shopping area is pedestrianised, (and this is probably the only one like it in India), and is impeccably clean.

Phulkari is a government run shop in the shopping sector (Sector 17). Woolen shawls and mirror-work bedspreads are truly works of art. Characteristic of Punjab and J&K.
What to buy: Woolen shawls, scarves, bedspreads are the highlights here. Also some bronzes and assorted handicrafts.
