Fashion Bar: Delhi gets its act together
  • Tip Rating:
  • Second is the Fashon bar, it is once again a hot joint of the moment, basically its mostley frequented by Indian models, somtimes the odd Bollywood star, but almost never the 'moneyed croud' of south delhi, oh and theres a few "Minister Sons" (If you are from delhi you will know what I mean). Oddly there are also a lot of eastern european and arabic women (?). It's not a food place like Olive, it mainly concentrates on the bar/ lounge scene.

as with Olive article... dress in Galliano, Dior, Gucci, Dior/ Dior Homme, Prada, Channel etc. if you want to get in with the croud, if not then wear what you want and enjoy, nobody will say anything to you (to your face) (Delhites are very judgemental)

Olive: New Delhi begins to liven up
  • Tip Rating:
  • I guess Delhi has finaly got its act together, and is begining to be able to compete with Mumbai...
There are numereous new places in the city which have opened up, and they are all prety good.
First up is Olive, on the MG Road (Mehrauli-Gurgaon) This Mumbai institution has been attracting Bollwood, fashion, and moneyed gilterati for a long time, and now with their Delhi venture it is only set to get better. It is well decorated in a minimalistic type manner, and has a good bar area, the food is not brilliant, but it passes for Indian standards, with poor attempts at Italian, French, Spanish and Indian cusine. As it is the lastest joint it hosts many of Delhi's society parties, such as the recent Ellite Modeling School Party. The main downer is the location, its practicaly in DLF, (a expensive housing area just south of delhis borders) It should realy be in Conaught Place, allthough GK would also have been better. But MG Road is realy developing though.. You get LA-style valet parking at the entrance where hanging vines and creepers tumble over the whitewashed walls, and you enter to find a lush oasis that's more The Ivy than India. There's a pebble dash garden with low tables and chairs outside to eat or drink at and a restaurant and sunken bar inside where the rest of the glamour set gather. Every cocktail you can think of is served by smiling green-uniformed barmen 'hello Raj' and the menu is continental and classy. Concentrate on your drink though: when you see the dusky beauties packing in here it?s easy to lose your composure. Music is from Hindi to trip-hop and back.

In Delhi always dress to impress at such destinations, as the wealthy makes up a small amount of the population, but they realy are very wealthy and want to show it, at the above mentioned destinations Channel bags with Gallianos clothing for women, and Dior Homme, DSquared and Gucci for the boys, especialy if there is an event at the place on the day (almost every Friday and Saturday night).

That is if you want to mingle amongst the Delhiites and Bollywood stars, if not wear whatever you like.

MG Road is not often frequented by tourists as it is not in the central Delhi area, but these kinds of places are a must if you want to see the rich people who take great advantage of their country (not just literally - think 16 year olds in 360 Modernas) Basicaly take the ring road from Delhis center (conought place) and head south, you should go through Hauz Kahz and and continue on the MG road, to get to Olive

Ricks: Hippest place to be on a Saturday evening
  • Tip Rating:
  • On regular days, the place is a restaurant serving southeast asian cuisine. On Saturday evenings, the place is converted to Delhi's hippest bar filled with interesting, fun loving and beautiful people. Oh did I mention beautiful people?

On Saturday evenings, smart casual to cocktail seem to be the norm. Other days, standard casual/business should do.

Turquoise Cottage: After Dark Delhi takes on a new look
  • Tip Rating:
  • Awesome music...if Floyd, Scorpions, Doors is your thing. Lively pub atmosphere with younger crowd. Reasonably priced drinks. Thai food on the ground level. Rocks till late and has an almost cult like following. Tends to get very crowded on weekends and the ratio works against the waiters.

    Casual.

Q`BA Restaurant & bar: Great views, if you can get'em
  • Tip Rating:
  • A great place just off Connaught Place was the QBE bar and restaurant.

Very large, airconditioned comfortable sofas and bar and a large terasse from where you have wonderful views (if it is not too hot) and can see over all of New Delhi.

Casual smart or as the theme dictates (they have retro evenings and all sorts of events)

Elevate: After Dark Delhi takes on a new look
  • Tip Rating:
  • The latest and largest nightclub to make an entry into the Delhi night scene. Has a capacity of almost 2000 and is spread across four levels. Not to be missed is the unique morning buffet breakfast after a night of partying. On till the early morning hours and open only on weekends.

Sound & Light Show: Get bitten by Mossies
  • Tip Rating:
  • There is a Sound and Light show down at the Red Fort. I think it happens every night. It was fun, watching as the lights played on the buildings and a booming disembodied voice described the historical events that had occurred in the fort. Very popular with Domestic tourists!
It starts about 7.00PM if I remember correctly and costs very little for a ticket.

No dress code but I would recommend long trousers, long sleeves and gallons of bug repellent.

Cineplex: PVR Plaza and Odeon: Indian Bollywood and foreign movies
  • Tip Rating:
  • Mingle with local in a cinema? Sure why not. That's a nice idea to do after the sun goes down. Many kind of movie titles can be found at PVR Plaza and Odeon. From Deewar, Laaksiya [hey, several scenes take shoot at Leh, Ladakh a year ago!!! :D], Hum Tum to US' movie Harry Potter. Cool, man ;)

    Sporty, casual.

PVR/CP/Geoffrey’s/Blues/DV8: Hanging out in the night!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Cinema continues to rule the roost with all generations. Some faithfuls still frequent the old theatres that added dashes of excitement to sepia-tinted childhood days, but most make their way to watch the latest chartbusters in style at the PVR Anupam and Priya. The young also prefer to hang out in Connaught place in quest of ice creams, burgers and friends. Dates are spent in the PVR Cine Complex (in Saket), or at Ansal Plaza Shoppers Stop (in Andrewsganj) – both in South Delhi. The real hotspots in the city though, are its booming bars and discos. Popular hang-outs like Geoffery’s at Ansal Plaza, Blues and DV8 in Connaught place are chock full till well past midnight revelers. The discotheques in some of the 5 Star hotels stay packed till the early hours of the morning, especially on the weekends.

Casuals in almost all the places!

    Icecream and maybe some techno
I never had much of a nightlife in Delhi. I don't think I missed much. Clubbing ain't my deal and that's pretty much all there is to night life in Delhi. You can count the icecream at India Gate but that has become such a middle class preserve now that there is nothing sublime about it anymore.
There is a 24 hour coffee shop (Machan, I don't know if it is still 24 hours), but it is not quaint and street level. Rather it is inside a 5 star hotel and quite forbidding.

The only two places that buzz with activity all through the night in Delhi are the railway station and the airport. And probably also the inter-state bus terminus. But that isn't much of a night sojourn.

I would be really happy if anyone could inform me better about nightlife in Delhi and if things have changed in the last three years.
