magnificent ECR(east coast road)
the magnificent ECR east coast road runs parallel to the coast from chennai to pondichery and onward.it is a toll road and you end up paying INR35 upto mamallapuram and INR65 when driving right upto pondichery.the coast road has so many places where u can just take a turn down to the beach and have fun under the sun.the road is also dotted with amusement and entertainment centres especially close to chennai end.there is no lane separation so oncoming traffic although sparse is a problem.there is catch though for a dream road.when you want to enter pondichery you cannot from this road you have to take asmall detour and drive around 10kms thro auroville to get a permit costing INR250 on the old road(national highway) then you can drive straight into pondichery via the old road.alternative is to take the old road into pondichery and while returning come thro the ECR.chennai madras crocodile...
