I do hope that I will not offend anyone by putting the Shariah Police under tag “Danger or Warning”. The implementation of Islamic shariah continues to invite debate between pro and contra. The Shariah Police is established to ensure that the shariah rule is well implemented in the daily life. Proper cloth is required. It means covering up from head to toe, leaving only face and hands exposed. Then, wearing tight cloth (after you cover up) is also not allowed. The rule is little bit relax when you are foreigner or non-Moslem. But still, wearing not so much skin revealing cloth is wiser. Other thing matter is no public affection with opposite sex, or un-married or non-family related man and woman are not allowed being together alone in a place such as room/house. There is leaflet published by BRR (Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency) about the Dos and Donts living in Aceh. It is good resource to be prepared.

This is much less entertaining when suddenly the ground is shaking. Many people are still traumatized with tsunami 2004. When the quake feels stronger, few minute after that, you will see people storming to run outside of the building. Once we experienced strong earthquake of nearly 6 richter scale, few minute after that people rushing with cars and motorcycle to go for safer place. It is really scary experience. Now the meteorology institution in Aceh opens their hotline number. I usually check the richter scale by calling them. You should always be ready to run to safer place when you feel the quake is strong. Though the prediction said that tsunami will come again years after 2004, but still, I prefer to be prepared.
