Fort Willem I is built by the Dutch. Between 1942-1946 the Japanese used it as a camp for the Dutch men, women and children.
Now, the Indonesian militair use it, and there is also a militair prison for men inside a part of the big building.
Another part is still used as houses, some families live here.
The whole building is almost a ruïne. There is a big gate around it. You have to go to the backside if you want to see the inside and talk to the quards first.
We were allowed to make pictures inside after the taxidriver gave them a little bit of money. Bring sigarets and kreteksigarets, because you have to give one to some militairs inside.

Visit the grotto just outside Ambarawa..its about 900m walk up a hill to get there. Beautiful gardens and Koi fish ponds overlooking the valley. Stations of the Cross and a natural grotto. Very peaceful and nice.
There are some beautiful rice paddies all around the town..a pic is below.
For great bread and spring rolls etc... try "pauline" bakery on the main street thru town.
Delicious chinese food in "AA" right next door.
