Bali Deli: Craving Western Food Deli Style

Aisles filled with Western Food Yummies!

While desperately looking for fresh mint,
I finally visited Bali Deli in Seminyak,
after hearing about it many times before.

I can not believe it took me so
long after sojourning here,
to discover the wonderful,
western treats here
that had no longer been in
my diet for several months.

From cold cuts, meats, peanut butter, cereals, wines, and all those tempting
no, no’s that we aren’t suppose to eat.

An outdoor restaurant in
the garden is available.

Bali deli gets my thumbs up
for when one has those
western food cravings.

Delivery available for couch potatoes.

Open daily from 8:30 am – 11:30 pm

Favorite Dish: There is way too much to list!

Sunset Drinks
2 more images

Location of this restaurant on Seminyak Beach is fantastic, having pre-dinner drinks watching a Bali sunset was a great way to start our night. The weather was warm but the breeze off the water was refreshing being a great compliment to the food and wine.

Service was excellent but still had a balinese feel about it which was good. Excellent restaurant for an occasion or romantic dinner.

Favorite Dish: Menu has both western and indonesian classic with my favourite dish of the night was the Indonesian Ayam Kalasan with coconut, local spices and shredded chicken Wontons. Also popular amongst us was was the Bebek Betutu a traditional Balinese duck baked in rice paper. All the seafood we had here was extremely fresh as you would expect and was cooked to perfection.

Ultimo: Awesome deal at a upscale Italian Restaurant
tan1415 profile photo

4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

tan1415 68 reviews

If you like trendy upscale restaurants than Seminyak is the place to be.There are so many such restaurants here.Choosing where to eat at night is a real pleasure.
They are quite pricey, but the food is pretty good and these places caters to the more affluent tourists or the expats.

Ultimo lies between the more famous trattoria italian restaurants in Seminyak. In a row of italian restaurants Ultimo stands out because of it's decor.Very modern and stylish and looks really upscale and posh. It's sister restaurant is the Toscano in Jakarta Kemang area.

The bar area looks real nice and lively, but you can also choose to eat in the garden area.Thats just what we did.Thats where we sat...very romantic and relaxed setting.

It tries to be an authentic italian restaurant. So multiple courses...antipasti, primi, secondi etc and dolce. Only thing is...the portions compared with an real italian ristorante is quite generous and during our dinner after 2 courses i started to wonder how I could finish the rest..
Items on the menu range from salads and pizza's to prime steaks(Wagyu, Angus etc).Pricewise is high to very high.

Service was MORE than excellent.A very personal service and no request is to much. Basically I could pretty much decide how fast the food was going to be served.

Even after all of the above what truly sets Ultimo apart is that right now I am counting this place as one of the BEST budget deals available anywhere. The reason is there outstanding setmenu/prix fix menu. While i was reading the menu I noticed that they also had set menus.4 courses for either 55000 IDR or 75000IDR per person.
U get a salad, Pasta dish, Meat Dish and lastly dessert.
That's like 5/8 US$!!! No doubt this has become my number 1 budget deal for foodies.Biggest bang for the buck and a must visit for any bali visitors.

Favorite Dish: This is such an incredible deal. The setmenu could be ordered seperately from the regular menu. Just to put into perspective..the meat dish is more expensive than the whole setmenu.

What I really appreciate is that this place tries to emulate a real italian ristorante. Not only in the way the menu is set up and food is served, but also the way it's prepared.

55K IDR menu gives you no choices, but it's still good. The meat dish is sliced tournedos in aporcini sauce. Real tasty and tender.
Pasta was served in matricana sauce. Salad was just a green salad and teh dessert was a home made sorbet.

75K menu gives you more flexibilty. You get to chooe between a steak(tenderloin) or a fishdish. You get a cheicken salad, choice of 2 pastas and ice cream as dessert.

Cyber Cafe: Great Lunch

Cyber Cafe is a good lunch spot after doing a bit of shopping on Jalan Legian. As the name suggests it has internet connection, wifi, and you can down load photos on cd,dvd etc, check the website for more info on services offered. Staff are very friendly and food is terrific.

Favorite Dish: We visited twice on my recent visit because it was so nice the first time, I had the chicken salad which we asked for the recipe because it was so yummy. I also had the Singaporean Laksa which was also very tasty, spicy but not too spicy. Also had a G&T but had to ask for a second glass because there was so much Gin I had to tip some out, so I ended up with two drinks for the price of one.

Bumbu Bali: Don't Miss Traditional Balinese Meal!

Restaurant itself were beauitfully set-up. Beware of the mosquitoes though but the staff were attentive enough to lid up the coil as soon as you feel uncomfortable. Yeah, good service there. The food itself were worth visiting, not the mention .. it is not expensive for the quantity and quality they provide. We ordered their RIJSTTAFEL SET (Rp225,000) which came with 4 appetisers, 1 soup, 3 rice, 7 main dishes, fruit platter and dessert. Honestly, portion is way to huge for 1 person so I shared them with my friend. Only thing is, they had this funny policy of charging you extra if you decide to share. However, you can order something else to forfeit the charges.

Other than that, its a cooking school too, and heard its pretty famous.

I came home happy as I get to try truely authentic balinese food, minus the tummy upset so famed by eating at the local roadside.

BTW, MUST BOOK. It was pack even on week nights.

Favorite Dish: Everything! From the appetiser, to main, to dessert to their homemade liquor .. everthing was memorable and delectable.

Ibu Oka's: Ibu Oka's Babi Guling Special ... A MUST TRY

Before I went on my Bali trip, I have been reminded over and over again to visit Ibu Oka for Bali's specialty. Babi Guling. This definately is the highlight dish of my whole visit. Not only its tasty and delicious, it is affortably priced at Rp15,000 only. When I was there (June 2007), the shop itself was close but I was fortunate to have Wayan (driver) with me. They are currently operating from Ibu Oka's personal home itself and its lovely. A typical balinese home with several separate houses, in a hugeeee compound. Do visit the kitchen/roasting area behind if you are curious like me. Quite an experience.

Favorite Dish: Babi Guling Special and Keropok Babi (Pork Skin Cracker)

Bonsai Restaurant

Bonsai Restaurant is very easy to find, if you walk along the pathway on the beachfront, heading towards Sindhu Beach Markets, you will actually walk straight through the Bonsai Restaurant.

There is seating inside or tables & chairs on the beach. Each time we have been there we have sat on the beach and its just perfect.

Walk behind the restaurant and see hundreds of bonsai plants some of which are hundreds of years old.

Bonsai Restaurant has a good selection of seafood, pasta, pizzas and Indonesian dishes at very reasonable prices and there is a fully stocked bar which closes at 2.00am.

Try their grilled garlic prawns, absolutely delicious!!

Food is good, service is great and its in a perfect setting, what more could you ask?

It is always busy at night so if there are a few of you I would suggest making a booking.

Average cost per person: IDR30,000

Open from 7.00am - 2.00am

This is really a nice place to have fresh seafood. There is many restaurants on this strip of beach and we went to Nyoman Cafe as choose by Meta from Bali as she says the food here is good. Anyway you choose your fish before you can find your seating. The fish is fresh which is then cleaned and cooked while you sit on the beach and watch the beautiful sunset. It`s very romantic , they even have guys singing at your table at your request and they good.

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the calamari from here.

Kuni's, in Seminyak: Affordable Japanese Tasting Menu

We came to know of this Japanese restaurant in Seminyak area while strolling about. The place looked impressive but their 10 course tasting menu were affordable (Rp120,00) per person excluding drinks. Headed by a japanese chef, the raw seafood were excellent! But apart from typical japanese dishes, they had incorporated in some fusion as well. One of the memorable dish were their Shu Mai. It was soooo wonderfully juice!

The place ... well, gorgeous setting. See the pics.
