This dance is very different than I had expected. It is not a song and dance show but a play. Many residents of Batubulan are performers and although there are many shows , they all seem to have a similar theme.
The play was basically about a fight between good and evil . The dancers are dressed in costumes of ancient style depicting mythical gods and creatures .
We sat outside on raised benches. The hour long performance was over all too quickly. It is a must do . The admission is $9.00.
Batubulan – which means ‘moonstone’is perhaps even more famous for its stone carvings. Situated about eight kilometers northeast of Batubulan has streets lined with statues, Buddha figures, demons and other mythical figures, all carved in stone.

Bali’s white beaches are favourite for family holidays. There are a variety of water sports available, such as banana boats, parasailing or jet skiing, swimming or plain sunbathing. Cruises to the surrounding islands can be taken from here as well as submarine dives to watch the tropical underwater life from within safe compartments.
Most well known among Bali’s beaches is Kuta beach, the best spot to watch dramatic sunsets. Further back along this stretch are an array of hotels, - from five stars to simple home stay - restaurants and shops and cafes, while in the evenings the area throbs to the beat of disco music.
Or for a quieter evening enjoy the beach at Jimbaran, a popular spot to eat fresh barbecued seafood in the evenings, while watching from a distance the lights of planes landing and taking off from Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport. Located here are some of Bali’s best hotels like the Four Seasons and the Bali Intercontinental hotel. Jimbaran is also renowned for the Barong trance dance.
Further west of Kuta are Legian and Seminyak. On the other side of the peninsula is the more sedate Sanur Beach, which is also dotted with hotels and restaurants, or visit Nusa Dua, where more private beaches front super de-luxe hotels.

Uluwatu is situated at the west coast of Bali.
Pura Luhur is a sea temple in Uluwatu. It was built in the 11th century. It is perched on a steep cliff 70 meters above sea level. There are more steep headlands on either side. Loads of tourist come here to witness the sunsets over Uluwatu.
There are many aggressive monkeys who will attack visitors. Do take care of your belongings especially glasses, sunglasses and anything that can be easily grabbed.
You will have to wear the sarongs which is provided with your entrance fees.
There will be touts to ask you to purchase tickets for the Kecak dance aka "monkey dance" performances. It is held about 6pm and 7pm.

First I would definitely go to Bali. We have been 3 times in the last 4 years and are looking forward to going again. Depending on what you want to do, is what is key. Short trip, I would go to Ubud, lots to do, good hotels, very reasonable. I have done a trip report on Bali from our 3 trips. Ubud, has some great museum, the Neka, Blanco and the Arma. Some great restaurants, Lotus, Cinta, Terazo, Batan Waru. Some beautiful Temples in the area and dance shows every night. Lots of shops (clothers, jewlery and art). And some beautiful rice fields. The key to the whole thing is the driver/guide. You definitely should get one. Hotel drivers and street drivers are cheap and plentiful. But are they knowledgeable, trustworthy and worth the money. We have used the same driver 3 years and I would not change him for anything. We have used others because he was not available, and it was a disaster. Email Merta at
mertagctg@telkom.net. He is a professional and his prices are more than reasonable.
