Bali Zoo is home to more than 350 creatures. Situated in the cultural heart of Bali, the zoo is only a ten minute drive from Ubud. About forty five minutes from the tourist areas of Kuta, Tuban, Legian and Seminyak.

Bali Zoo open daily from 9.00 am – 9.00 pm.

The ticket fee : Adult US$ 15.00, Child (2-14 years old) US$ 7.00
Family (2 Adults + 2 Children) US$ 32.00

Daily program includes feeding of the lions, crocodiles and tigers, and if it's cute and cuddly that you're after - why not head down to petting area and snuggle with a baby monkey? All of the inhabitants are fully cared for by the resident veterinarian, and there are also a bird flu free environment.

Rice Paddy/Village Trek & Balinese Massage

Rice terraces we passed on the trek

We couldn't decide how to spend a day in Ubud, having an indulgent massage, or going for a healthy walk in the countryside, or maybe just a tasty lunch in an outdoor setting? Then we found the brochure for Beji Ayu Health and Beauty Center in our Hotel foyer. Problem solved, as their Rice Paddy/Village Trek & Balinese Massage combines all these activities.
Our host, I Made Nasib, with his collegue Dewi, guided us on a two hour walk through rice paddies, answering our questions about local history, culture, religion, geography, agriculture, irrigation, and much more. it was a fascinating morning, and gave us so much more insight to Bali than we could otherwise have hoped to find.
After the walk, we were taken to a beautiful small spa in the middle of rice fields, for a refreshing drink of green coconut and lime juice. This was followed by showers, and an hour long Balinese massage that was the best I've ever had! The tranquil and beautiful setting really added to the whole experience.
Lunch afterwards was delicious, and all of this cost only US$20 (approx) per person.
My friends made it to the main Beji Ayu spa center in Monkey Forest road, in Ubud a couple of days later, for more massages, and found them just as good, and excellent value. we all voted this the best experience of our time in Bali.

The monkeys are having some monkey business in their forest.

Pls do not disturb their peace :) They can be very aggressive. Beware of your sunglasses, cap, hat, water bottle, cameras, earings, hairclips. Whatever they can grab hold on they wont return it to you.

There is a "secret path" on the left of the main entrance where you can walk in for free. This is the path that is used by the local motorists where they cut through the monkey forest to the other entrance near to Saren Indah Hotel.

There is a step leading to a padi field. Climb up and take a look if you have no chance of seeing a padi field.

So we thought it would be nice to do the girly thing so Miss T, my Sis and I went up to Ubud. In the morning we woke early and decided while it was cool we would go for a walk to the monky forrest...my fourth time Miss T's second time but sissy's first time. We got down there and it was early and not really open but we thought we would stroll through as the bush and trees are lovely. Well there wasn't many monkeys but enough to satisfy Sissy which was good. We walk all the way to the top and on our way back down we were treated to an amazing natural light show the light was peircing through the trees causing amazing rays of light...usually its so dark here but it must have been alot stronger as it was about 7.30-8ish.
We were blown away it was like something magical. I have put a photo Miss T has most of them in n.z I hope to get those soon...but the photos don't do it justice....awsome experience.

And the banana goes to.....!!

Ok, so i have an obsession with animals. One of the things I was looking forward to on this trip is getting close to the monkeys, so we asked our driver and he took us to the monkey forest in Ubud. If u like monkeys, u'll really enjoy this. Dozens of monkeys roam about freely in this forest and u can feed them and get close to them unsupervised but u have 2 b careful. They r not to b trusted and can get aggressive when provoked or feel threatened. Be especially wary about getting too close to the pregnant or baby monkeys as the mothers r very protective and r unpredictable in their reactions. Always move slowly when getting close and no sudden movements. Do not wear glasses or jewellery, and carry no drinks or food. Also be careful with cameras, mobiles or anything else that they can easily snatch & run. They r terribly sneaky and I've seen them sneak up on ppl & snatch things on several occasions. By the time u catch up with them, it is usually too late. If u want to feed them, there r ppl selling bananas and fruits in the forest. Here is a great tip that will give the person taking the photo a couple of seconds to take a shot, but they have 2 b very quick. Stand with ur arm lifted high up in the air with a banana in ur hand (see photo). The monkey will take a few seconds to climb up there to grab it. Once the monkey reaches it, u have 2 let go, do not try to buy more time by grabbing onto the banana or it might get aggressive. If u missed the shot, just repeat the same action. Do not try to touch or pet the monkeys, remember they r still wild, after all. U will also find some other animals in the forest, such as deers, which are also fun to feed but these are fenced.

Gate pass please... No banana, no entry.

The Monkey Forest is located very near our resort, Pande Permai, just 3 minutes walking distance. There is an entrance fee. I can't remember how much but I think it's around IR15,000. Bananas are being sold outside the gate but if you don't want to be swarmed by monkeys, don't buy. If you're game and would love them climbing on your back and opening your bags without your permission, then by all means, get a bunch or more for there are more than 200 monkeys that will vie for your attntion to get a piece.

I think half of these monkeys here is all carrying babies ;0P There is a whole bunch of do`s and don`ts on boards when you enter the monkey forest so do pay attention to it and please look after your belongings as these monkey are mischievious. The forest is very nice and you can even buy banana`s at the entrance in which you can feed the monkeys.
