Semara Pura Complex - Fascinating ceiling painting

The Semara Pura Complex is on the original site of the Klungkung Royal Palace which was destroyed during conflicts with the Dutch. It is a walled complex containing the 'Kertha Gosa' or Hall of Justice and the 'Bale Kambang', a floating pavilion. Both are examples of Klungkung architecture. But the main attraction is their ceilings. Both ceilings contain rows of beautiful paintings. Adorning the well maintained grounds are many statues. There is a small entry fee to the complex, and visitors need to be dressed appropriately. Sarongs can be hired at the entry.

Puri Agung Karangasem - A Royal Palace in Amlapura

If you are passing through Amlapura on the way to Amed or Tirta Gangga, a visit to one of the palaces is worth the break in your journey. Puri Agung Karangasem has some impressive rooms - including the royal bedroom - and gardens to view. The pavilion display of musical instruments is also impressive. There is a small entrance fee. Take a look at the elaborate Chinese-influenced front door!
