Even if the distance seem short on a map, do not underestimate the time to drive around. From Denpasar airport (south Bali), it takes me 3 hours to cover 120km to my hotel located on the North-East side of Bali. Denpasar area have sometimes terrific traffic jam.
As reviewed in my warning tip, I would not recommend to drive around Bali but be driven by a friendly local driver for a stressless and safe trip.

As Swiss was not flying there... I choose a 737 Pacific Blue (Virgin Australia) from Australia to Bali and a nice 777 of Singapore Airlines from Bali to Singapore.
Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport or Denpasar International Airport is located in south of Denpasar. At arrival you need to buy a visa payable in every main foreign currency before the immigration/customs control. At departure, you need to pay the airport taxes only in local Inonesian rupiah currency to an officer located after the check-in desks, in necessary you will find exchange counter at the departure level.
Have a pleasant flight!

We booked our tickets online with no problems. We have one stop in KL but I'm happy our luggage can be checked right through. I'm surprised that even though its a domestic flight to K.L. from Sandakan we have to clear customs.
There was a cloud of volcanic ash from Java hanging over Bali . Most flights are cancelled . We are one of the few arriving. Its an eary sensation flying through the thick grey mass. I'm happy to clear it and safely land!

Recently we travelled to Bali from Australia, staying at 'The Villas' in Seminyak. Prior to leaving we were recommended 'Sugi's Bali Tours' by a friend. Sugi was the most friendliest person. He was always beaming a smile but was completely professional & courteous. He was always well presented & made us feel so welcome & cared for.
Sugi was always punctual & made some great suggestions as to day tours & sights to see as well as places to shop & what we should expect to pay which was a great help.
Sugi speaks perfect English & was always reliable. We felt like we were being taken around by a friend. He has a late model SUV which was alway immaculate & is a completely safe driver.
We were with Sugi for approximately half of our stay & he was very well priced. We even asked to be taken around for some specialised furniture shopping which he investigated & came prepared with all of the information we required also offering to arrange freight forwarding when it is required.
I would highly recommend Sugi's Bali Tours to anyone!
Thankyou Sugi for playing a part in making our visit to Bali so enjoyable!

It's always good to hire a driver that will take you to the touristy spots in Bali, Indonesia - since the sites are basically quite afar from each other.
Normally, one whole day trip will cost you around 400K - 450K rupiah, if it's in the Kuta area, and cheaper within the outskirts say Ubud, which is around 350K rupiah.
You can also rent motorcycles, if you know how to ride one. Good to rent a bicycle and just go cycling around rice paddy fields too!

Whilst you will not have any problems finding transport in Bali it sometimes can be hard to find a reliable driver. We use Sanny Bali Tours, the owner Sanny worked on cruise ships in the Carribean for nearly ten years so his english is excellent . He is good for shopping tours is very friendly and helpful with having an eskie stocked with ice cold drinks. Additionally he has a proper baby seat which came in very handy for us on our recent trip with a 6 month old baby. Let him know that you were recommended by Meg and Louise from Aust.

We actually found our driver right here in this website, as other people recommended him. i contacted Sila via email, and he answered promptly. Sila speaks fluent English, we found him very caring, knowledgable about the island, punctual and very helpful. At present, he charges IDR450,000 for a day, this include his car, petrol, parking fees (not entrance fees), mineral water, umbrellas and sarongs (for temple visits). He may not be the cheaest driver in Bali, but he is very reliable and does not propose us to go anywhere he may get a percentage bonus of, nor reveal any hidden charges at the end of the day. We feel sure anyone new to Bali will feel secure with him showing you around.

TAXI is cheap and convenient in Bali, however, many TAXI tend to take advantage of foreign travelers.
Choose Blue Bird TAXI whenever possible as this is well managed, cheap and reliable TAXI company.

For US$40-50 a day, you can hire a driver to take you around Bali to check out the various tourist spots. The package includes car, petrol/gas, water and sarongs.
You can negotiate time frame regarding pick-up and drop-off.
My recommendation is Sila. He's very friendly, speaks good English and will tell you how to avoid certain tourist traps.
