We recently took at trip to Bali and had the best driver. His name was Sila. We were there on a girls shopping weekend, and he helped us find some great places. He went above and beyond our expectations and even helped us arrange shipping back to our home country (everything arrived safely and on time). He also gives tours of the island and can help you to plan your time to best suit your needs.
Sila drives a late model air conditioned Toyota SUV, which can comfortable seat up to 7 adults. Child seats are also available for those that need them. Sila is a very safe driver and you will never feel uncomfortable even on some of Bali’s narrow dirt roads. Sila also always has cold bottled water on hand.
Sila has extensive knowledge of Bail. If you are looking to take a cultural tour of the island or if you want to spend all of your time shopping, Sila can show you places off of the beaten path.

Cosmas, is a very careful and respectful driver, a rare thing among the madness we witnessed on the roads in Bali during our recent visit. Cosmas welcomed us all to Bali at the Airport and assisted with our luggage in a friendly and helpful way. During our stay we used Cosmas to visit Seminyak, Sanur, Candidasa, Lovina, Ubud and the Volcano. His local knowledge was amazing and he was able to share insights about his and his families daily life in Bali. You felt like you were living the experience through the eyes of a local, from the historical, to the natural wonders, arts and crafts, wildlife and small villages surrounded by paddy fields. We saw all the tourist destinations but more importantly for us, we saw the real Bali and Balinese people. Cosmas also willingly shared with us the Indonesian words for basic things when we asked him.
Cosmas waited patiently for us, while we saw all the sights and offered us a cold bottle of water during the heat of the day! Prices were also great compared with the tour companies and we had our own driver, and air conditioned car, how amazing is that!
Cosmas, we wish to truly thank you for making our trip to Bali so very special............we will remember you with a great deal of affection. Sampai Jumpa
You can contact Cosmas on cosmasgudipung@yahoo.com or phone his mobile +628123903878 from outside Indonesia. From within Indonesian phone 08123903878.

We went to Bali this August and after reading these forums, I decided not to rent a car. I'm glad we didn't and not because they drive on the left, but because of the # of moped drivers. They pass cars and get passed by cars within the lane and it seems like it would be very easy to hit one. We did see the aftermath of an accident where a moped driver was laying on the sidewalk.
I contacted drivers listed on this website and Kadek agreed to meet us at the airport. He was waiting when we arrived with a sign and took us to the grocery store before taking us to our hotel in Tanah Lot.
Through email, I told him the days we needed a driver and he always arrived early with a new car with airconditioning to take us to different places on the island. He would park as we shopped or went to eat, so we could leave whenever we wanted to. He suggested places to go and when I left my bank card in a bank machine, he was as helpful as possible, using his cell phone to call my bank and raced me back to that bank
On the 2 days we flew from the island, we trusted him with all our bags so we went strait from sight seeing to the airport.
Besides being reliable, he is a really nice guy too, so I recommend him to anyone going to Bali

As quite a few visitors to Bali just don't have the money to hire cars/drivers, and since bemos seem to be getting fewer and fewer, I though I put up the rates for the Perama Shuttle Bus. The website is

As promised the published prepaid airfares at Denpasar Airport, just outside the arrivals hall, are as follows:
Seminyak as far as Bintang Supermarket Rp60.000 (about US$6.70), further they call it Kerobokan and the fare is Rp70.000 (about US$7.80) I am posting all the fares as a photo in my VT homepage, and also in my blog www.chiliandgamalan.com

just a short note about the taxi to Seminyak. When you get out of the arrivals hall, into the "fresh air", there is a taxi counter, where you pre-pay (in Indonesian Rupiah, which you can get at the ATM in the arrivals hall) for your fare. OK, you might end up paying a $ more that way, but it's totally hassle free. The prices to the different areas are posted at the counter. I'll be going to the airport on Monday to meet some friends, and will send you a message letting you know what the currently posted, pre-paid fare, to Seminyak is. I more or less live here, and I still do it that way. Enjoy your stay in Bali, and if you need any help, send me message. Sybille

Hi. I have been to Bali many times, and the roads are not that good. The ONLY way to see Bali in comfort is to hire a driver/guide to show you their island.
On all my trips, I hired the same driver. His name is Agus Kuswana, a very dear friend now. He speaks very good english, and he is a very lovely, honest and reliable guy. (Very important). He is 43 years old, and will take you wherever you want to go. He is great with children also, and nothing is too much to ask him to do. Very obliging. We hired him to take us over to the other side of the island to Lovina, for 2 days, and then back around the island, via Candi Dasa, to Kuta. His knowledge of Bali is vast, there is not much that he doesn't know. His vehicle is air conditioned, clean and a late model. His daily rates are very competitive, so give him a try, you won't regret it. He is based in Kuta, and his phone number is 0011 62 8123942814 from Australia. If you are ringing in Bali, PHONE 08123942814. I can highly recommend Agus and if you need any more information, please feel free to email me on kstedfor@dodo.com.au. Have a great holiday...CHEERS...Kerry

Budget airlines come and go,
but a no-frill airline that is taking ground
or lets say the sky…is Air Asia.
This Airline is based in Kuala Lumpur,
so in most cases you will have to transit there
if you don’t start off your travels there.
(Warning: If you transit here,
make sure that you have or
don’t need a visa to do so.
At the time of my last visit,
they did not have a transit lounge
for those who may require a visa
and this can lead to problems)
There are some exceptions on flying direct though,
like from Bali you can find direct flights to:
Bangkok, Perth, Singapore, Jakarta, etc., etc.
or from Bangkok to Phnom Penh, Macau, etc.
This is an absolutely no-frills airline
and every detail has its additional price.
Things like, your meal,
the amount of weight you take on board,
(warning: and make sure you select
the appropriate weight when booking
or you will encounter at the counter
a hefty penalty fee!)
certain seats have different rates,
charges for changing dates,
the additional charge for NOT booking on-line but
rather by booking in one of their offices, etc.
But considering the savings
that you may find on most routes,
compared to other airlines
it’s definitely worth looking into!
Countries that Air Asia flies to include:
(subject to change)
Australia: Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth
Brunei:
Bungladesh
Cambodia: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
China: Guangzhou, Guilin, Haikou, Hangzhou,
Hong Kong, Macau Shenzhen. Tiajin
India Tiruchirappalli
Indonesia: Bali, Balikpapan, Banda Acheh,
Bandung, Batam, Jakarta, Makassar, Manado,
Medan, Padang, Pelembang, Pekanbaru. Solo, Surabaya, Yogyakarta
Laos: Vientiane
Malaysia: Alor Star, Bintulu, Johor Bahru,
Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Terengganu,
Kuching, Labuan, Langkawi, Miri, Penang, Sandakan, Sibu, Tawau
United Kingdom: London
Myanmar: Yagon
Philippines: Clark-Manila
Singapore
Taiwan Taipei
Thailand: Bangkok,Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai,
Hat Yai, Krabi, Nakjon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat,
Phuket, Ranong, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchatani, Udon Thani
Vietnam: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh
