DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE HEAT OF THE SUN HERE.
Bali is such a magnet for travellers especially the beach type. The surf culture here is what put Bali on the map in the first place...although there is more to Bali than the beaches..
The sun here can be unforgiving and sun protection is a must when out and about especially a day at the beach. Like anywhere here in the tropics the sun is extremely hot and humid and it is a "must" to always carry lots of fresh bottled water with you when away from the towns and cities where it is readily available..Make sure that you are using a strong sunscreen on all exposed areas..don't forget the tops of your ears and your nose...these are the biggest areas of melanoma in Australia.
Also your hat and "sunnies". Really bad sunburn can put a stop to travelling!!

ALWAYS CARRY SUFFICIENT TRAVEL INSURANCE
When travelling here or anywhere throughout Indonesia Always make sure that you have adequate Travel Insurance. Bali is especially a place now that is not without its dangers. When formulating my travel plans I make sure that Travel insurance is a priority for me . I like to travel with peace of mind and the type of Travel Insurance cover that I use is the one I choose for my needs. I always have cover for Medical, Hospital, Theft, loss of baggage and the most important cover for me is Repatriation..especially after what happenned in Bali. When we travel we don't like to think of anything that is going to spoil our well earned holiday but unfortunately all sorts of problems can occur and accidents can happen anywhere and at anytime. Hospital and medical expenses can be horrific..So..look after yourself and what you have.

BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS AND BAG SNATCHERS
However pleasant the beach and sometimes tranquil lifestyle of the locals here Bali is not without its dangers.. Unfortunately there are the few here that prey on the many unsuspecting tourists and take the opportunity to steal from them.. As with so many Asian cities there is the "rip off" minority that see the tourist or traveller as fair game..
.Economies being what they are this offers up opportunities of easy money...
Always carry your bag around your neck and not just over your shoulder
...motorbike drive by snatchers happen also
Don't put your bag down without some form of personal restraint.
Be very aware of your surroundings in crowded areas..
This is Important in crowded areas such as bus stations and resturants etc.
Don't flash cash in public places.
Don't keep all your money in one place ...have a stash somewhere on your body.
Always minimise your chances of being" ripped off"
REMEMBER: ---THESE PEOPLE ARE GOOD AT IT ------------THEY DO IT FOR A LIVING!!

BEWARE OF DRUG TOUTS..
..Be exceptionally careful of drug touts here ..Walking anywhere here in Denpassar especiallty around Kutas beaches touts are everywhere..To walk without being confronted is an impossibility. To stop and talk with a dealer is foolish as you will immediately be under police surveillance..Many young people come here knowing that there are many drugs to be had and stupidly try and do a deal...
The Kuta area is especially well known also for its entrapment...This is where someone stops when confronted by a drug tout and makes a buy. The police are in co-ordinanace with the dealer. The buyer gets busted ....the dealer gets away...the police sometimes then bribe the buyer OR he is arrested and is in big trouble..Anyone silly enough to pursue this course in Bali is really asking for trouble...There are big signs at all points of entry into Indonesia stating the Harsh Penalties that are applied here.

CARRYAND USE A STRONG MOSQUITO REPELLANT
Denpassar in Bali is like most of tropical South East Asia and one must be careful of Mosquitos.
Wherever you have heat you have" bugs and bities"
Always carry and use a strong Mosquito and Insect repellant when travelling anywhere up here. The risk of Dengue Fever even Malaria is a possibility in these tropical areas..In the evenings wear long sleeved shirts and long pants and also Make sure that all exposed skin is covered with a good reliable mosquito repellant. The best types can be purchased at home before you travel , small spray bottles small enough for Airport security are available..When you are going to travel in tropical areas and have concerns of Malaria and Dengue Fever and are not happy with just carrying a spray pack of repellant ,see your doctor about other alternatives.
