staying in the hills

by edwards2454

We have just gotten back last week from Bali. First time I have been there for 20 years and it was quite a shock! Still lovely. I really enjoyed the tjamphuwan Hotel in Ubud. The gardens and pool and breakfast restaunts atmoshpere are very special. (our room - not high season-huge and beautiful was $70 aus)Like to give a recomendation for Kung_- He is based in Ubud, english is good and has his own car so he is not trying to scam extras. He is very honest and cheap.Kung 08123978729 kungsaga@yahoo.com He will pick you up from the airport and take you to ubud- for 150thousand - (Going through the airport is 250thousand and the car and driver was a little rough.) He guides rice paddy walks that sound great. We used him for half day trips and he was very helpful. We stayed a few days in a little mountain town in the north called Munduk. It was cool. With great walks in all directions. We...

The best way to go around...

by danijelac

Hi. I came back from Bali a month ago. Try Inna Putri Bali hotel, you'll easely find the website with most of it's information. It's good, on the beach in Nusa Dua, maybe 20 minutes from Kuta.If you like, I could give you a phone number and e-mail of a guide called Smokey (all the turists call him that since his name is very hard to pronounce:). He knows all the beaches for surfing. He was actually driving couple of Australians, waitting with them for the waves. :)He is a local guide, driver, has his own car and is very helpfull since he knows everything about the island and all the activities there. With him, you can go around the island, as I did, and pay less than through local agencies. Also, he is very kind, 42 years old, has wife and two kids, speaks very good English, learning Russian... The best way to go around is to hire a local private guide. Believe me, I usually travel...

Visa on Arrival

by Carino

Most nationalities require a visa for Indonesia. Bali, besides other airports and ports, provides the possibility of a Visa on Arrival. This visa for up to seven days cost USD 10. Make sure that you bring the exact amount in USD to avoid a rip off with the exchange rate. There is also a visa if you stay longer than seven days. This visa will cost you USD 25 and is valid 30 days. As of April 2008 following nationalities did not require a visa at all: Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.Visa on Arrival was possible for tourists from Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Laos, Latvia, Libya, Lichtenstein,...

Great places in Ubud

by jonbarb709

Nusa Dua will be quite and not to close to towns. I would definitely go to Ubud - some great restaurants in Ubud, Lotus, Cinta, Terazo, Cafe Des Artistes. Great museums, the Neka, Blanco, and Arma. Great shops, clothers, jewlery and art.Got to Cinta's and have a happy hour Mojito.

Ubud is really where you want to go.

Not sure why you want to go to Kuta for a honeymoon. Kuta is crowded and lots of hawkers. You are near water and that is a plus.I would go to Ubud, better restaurants, better museum, better shops, better atmosphere. On taxi's make arrangements before - someone to take you, wait, or come back and pick you up. I would not just pick one off the street late at night. Prices could be higher. Arrange for everything before.Weather - hot, hot, hot. Carry water.I have written on our 3 trips to Bali, check it out. john

Going to Bali, anyway you go is ok, but go.

We have been to Bali three times in four years. We have done it both ways. The first time 4 years ago we went on a 2 week tour. We stayed in Sanur for two weeks and went on tours almost every day. We skipped a year and then went back in 2007. We got our own air, but had the local tour agency Floressa Bali Tours set up our hotels and driver. This year we did it all on our own, got the Air thru GoWay and they also had 7 nights in Sanur, it was a package deal. We stayed at the Sanur Beach Hotel and it is a great place. They also gave you 2 full day tour and a half day tour with Panorama Tours (since they were free we went) but they were not the best, Floressa Tours was much better. We used Floressa Tours guide and driver to take us to the next two hotels that we made arrangement for on our own (Candidasa and Ubud) We used the same driver/guide we have used the 2 previous times. Believe me...

Internet heaven

by jonbarb709

In Ubud there are a thousand and one Internet places. And the prices are all about the same. The internet places in the hotels are usually much higher. We have been to Ubud 3 times in the last 4 years and without a doubt the best of the best is Rada Internet Cafe. This was Ubud's first internet place. The plus side: lots of computers, Broadband, qualified people and the prices are unbelievable low. Now it is a little out of the way. But its worth the walk. The main street in Ubud is Jalan Raya. Its the same street the Lotus is on. OK, as you face the Temple (Palace) which is at the cross road of Jalan Raya and Money Forest Road, turn left. You will pass the Lotus and the next left is Jl Bisma. You will take that left, walk up the hill, a school is on your left and on your right is the Rada Internet. Next door are two artist shops and across the street is the Cafe Des Artistes. Believe me...

DON'T JUST STAY IN KUTA

by nezz

I do suggest you try & see more than one area of Bali. It is very easy to negotiate a driver to take you to other parts of the island & have some stops along the way to enjoy the peace & tranquillity away from the hustle & bustle of the really busy tourist areas. Stay the first night & last night in the south either Kuta, Sanur or Nusa Dua as they are well placed for the airport. I like Lovina situated in the very North . We stayed at Rambutan Boutique Hotel in their Raja Villa devine!! I still want to get to Amed as that is supposed to have great snorkelling. I like the look of Anda Amed Resort. Other places worth a stay are Ubud, Candi Dasa , Padangbai, and Pacung Indah. Your 7 days in paradise will go very fast. enjoy Sandra Getting away to the north of the island to Lovina . It was like the Bali of years ago. It has a more village feel than a really crazy touristy feel. WEBSITE FOR...

Falling in Love With a Balinese?

by Ubudian

Bali herself is the ultimate seductress, so it is no surprise how often a tourist to Bali can be smitten by the charms, grace, elegance, character, and beauty of the Balinese people. I totally “lost my head” here over ten years ago, and I will always be grateful for having been so utterly smitten.Back then I had no capability for logical or “sensible” thought. As the ancient Greeks speak of the sirens, Bali and the Balinese can be equally intoxicating and mesmerizing. In Bali, all the senses are on overload. Here, it isn’t Greek mythology...rather, it is the reality of Bali. Should I now offer a logical tip like, “keep your head on straight?” No, and that’s because Bali has nothing to do with the head. Here, it’s all about spirit and heart. Personal romantic relationships are just that...personal and unique for us all. Am I qualified to offer advice on this? NO, and no more than a gecko...
