Swarms of them - You wil be Irritated!

by myspices Updated Mar 3, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Just when you were brought to a spot to view the great scenery, and just when you disembark from your transport, swarms of souvenier sellers will crowd round you, almost forcing you to buy their goods. They are desperate, agressive and persistent - no matter how you shoo them away, they will follow you about. Once you start buying from one of them, you had it - others will come rushing to you to buy more.

There was one who was selling a chessbox. He kept saying "one dollar, one dollar". Of course the chessbox costs more than that. His calling is just to attract your attention. What he meant was each of the chess piece is one dollar and the whole set could come up to quite an amount.

If you are not interested in buying, do not look or touch the items offered, do not even talk to him, just wave your hand as a sign to show that you do not want it.

We had a group of pedlars who followed us until we went into a warung for lunch. They waited at the door (it was also raining then) and relentlessly waving their goods at us and bidding us to buy.

Kintamani Tourist Traps

  • Pricely food with a Good view?

Some tour groups will send the tourists to restaurants that so-called "have a better view" of Mount Batur and the crater lake. Here, seated high up in the restaurant, with the views of the mount and lake in front of you, you will either have the buffet lunch or the a la carte, both equally expensive (about 80,000Rp) and which do not taste...

  • To buy or not to buy?

This lady seller will follow you wherever you go. If she think, it's not working for her to offer you their goods, then they will beg for your kindness to buy some. Poor her. It is happening since the bombing, I guess. Why it is become a trap? Think cause their goods is not what we want as souvenirs, so i dont want to buy, but their effort on...
