Plenty of surfshops and dodgy gear

by alvis Written Apr 26, 2006
    Discovery Shopping Mall
    2 more images

The girlfriend loved the shopping here and we spent hours looking through Quicksilver, Roxy, Rip Curl etc. etc. The clothes are really cheap and she managed to rack up an extra 4 bags of clothes to bring back with us on the plane. There is also a surf factory outlet just outside Kuta selling all the same brands at even lower prices.

You can also find all your dodgy gear as seen all over Asia i.e. LV rip offs.

Matahari Shopping Mall: If you don't have time to shop for souveniers ....

by myspices Updated Mar 2, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Matahari - good place to pick up souveniers

Here's the answer to those who do not have time to go round shopping for souveniers. You can pick up some good and reasonable stuffs in this chain departmental store - Matahari (means "Sun"). In Kuta, this is a popular shopping centre not only with the locals but also for the foreigners who do not enjoy "bargaining". A wide variety of local handicrafts can be found here.

    What to buy: Local handicrafts

What to pay: Prices are fixed here. Prices are reasonable.

All shops in Kuta: Shops everywhere...

Bob Marley art pieces - cool!
    1 more image

There are too many to mention - antiques, clothings, sports goods, art and craft, jewelry, gifts, music ......

All the shops have its uniqueness. The common thing you should be doing is - bargain

What to buy: All of the stuff mentioned above

What to pay: Always start with a base, usually about one-third of the offered price and then up the prices slowly. Once the price is strucked, ensure that you pay on the price agreed and not push it down further or refuse to buy. This will make the seller very angry and will scream and curse at you, even if you are miles away
