Make sure you only pack half a luggage worth of clothes. You must do some serious shopping in Bali and you wouldn't want to run out of space when you return to your own country.
Bring light clothes as it gets very hot and humid during daytime but it will be a little cooler at night. Don't forget the sandals for the beach and of course swim gear is a must!
Take a good camera with you. Bring spare batteries, if you have rechargeables then better. You should have extra memory cards for digital cameras when you join tours. In 5 days, I have taken at least 400 pictures in Bali and still I feel it wasn't enough.
Bring loads of sunblock and tanning oil. They could be quite pricey in Bali. Also, mosquitoes could be a problem too so bring insect repellants.
They use two round pins for power plugs in Bali. If you are going to bring in any electrical appliance, check them first if you will need a socket adaptor. Leave a Comment

After traveling from border to border, I can not recommend enough time that you buy a small combination lock for all your suitcases. Even if there are security measurements on the flight you are taking, you can open it and lock it again. It will help avoid the temptation of the many hands that your suitcase goes through while flying, the staff of the hotels you will be staying at, moments of when your bags may be unattended, and other opportunities that may arise for the wrong person to take something out. Yes......these locks can be broken into, but it's more of an effort and then you will know for sure. Leave a Comment

If you use body lotion to dehydrate dry skin, or that fancy French facial creme, you better off bringing plenty of your own. Because of the Indonesians seeking to appear to be of a higher social status by avoiding the sun, so not to look 'dirty', you'll find the selection of natural products and of normal body lotions limited to the Skin Whitener that contains who knows what. No help here in keeping that great tan to show off back at home. You might find Baby Johnson's, and a couple of others in larger towns, but if you go to the villages, there is not much of a choice, but these bleaching cremes. Leave a Comment

When packing, keep in mind that you will be in the tropics, but that it can get cold in the mountains. Generally, you will want to dress light and wear natural fibers that absorb perspiration. A medium-weight sweater or wind breaker is also a must as is a sturdy pair of shoes. Suits and ties are almost never worn. Don't bring too much, as you will be tempted by the great variety of inexpensive clothes available here. A a cotton batik shirt is much more comfortable If you visit a government office, men should wear long trousers, shoes and a shirt with collar. Women should wear a neat dress, covering knees and shoulders, and shoes. A sarong purchased upon arrival in Indonesia (€5-10) is one of the most versatile items you could hope for. ft serves as a wrap to get to the bath, a beach towel, a waist sash which is required dress for Balinese temples, pyjamas, bed sheet, fast drying towel, etc.
In the majority of Indonesian department stores and supermarkets you can find Western toiletries. Kondom (condoms) are available at all apotik (pharmacies).
Bring your own photo equipment, though it is available in supermarkets and local stores, at more expensive prices.
Bring sunscreen and Insect repellent, although these are also available locally. Chocolates, biscuits, pens, stationery from your hotel, even your T-shirt with foreign designs are appreciated. Leave a Comment

Just bring little coz you will probably want to buy the colourful shirts / sarong there ...get additional empty ones just in case buy more than you expect ! But again be careful whn you buy becoz you will end up buying many unneceesary things !
Bring a raincoat during the raining season Nov till Feb , slipper ( coz you will need them ) when you go for water sports
Mosquito repellents ( but during my stay I was not bitten at all ) so Kuta Beach Club is a nice place to stay ! But you can get almost everything there in the 24hours shop
Batteries are almost the same - 4 AA batteries for Rp21000-23000. But if you want to buy the memory card for you digicam , I think its more expensive here ! Leave a Comment

Ok, Ok, some of you may crave that romance while traveling abroad. Being Latina & into the Latinos myself, and not convinced of the Indonesians as lovers, I write as a witness only, on this subject matter. If you are a woman, you will find many male Indonesians willing to go for the ride of having everything paid for, and maybe a free plane ticket out, or a financial stability for the rest of their lives. Call them The Kuta Cowboys But beware, the boyz here have the tendency to lie. 1) About NOT being married, while many of them are married in their 20's. 2) Using condoms. Most of them have never even seen one! Don't be stupid! If you must have some romance on this trip, carry your own condoms. DO NOT expect them to have one, when the time is right. You will just be looking for trouble, or catch some kind of disease. As conservative as they are, (in my opinion) they do get around every here and there, looking for that free ride.
By the way, I've heard many the times, that the condoms you get here are not big enough. Is this a boasting Ego? Or should every one bring their own extra larges from back home? Leave a Comment

Pack light. Bali is tropical all year round, and apart from the old monsoon when its still very muggy, you will find that a singlet and shorts are still necessary!!
I only packed singlets, bikinis, shorts and t-shirts, and a pair of going out shoes like high heels, and jandals (thongs). I still suggest one pair of pants and a jersey, just for some of the "colder" nights!!
I strongly advise mossie repellent!! And sunscreen!!! I suffered serious sun burn. As im used to the new zealand sun, i know when im getting burnt, you can see it and feel it. But in Bali i just felt warm, and showed no signs of being burnt. Until i got up to the hotel room and revealed some seriously TOMATO skin!! Those two supplies are essential!!
My family only took over a standard camera. To be honest there wasnt a lot to take pictures of, except slums, and dirty streets...But i did catch this awesome photo of 30 Balinese playing soccer on the beach at sunset!!! Looks great!!! I suggest for a two week trip, 5 films will be ideal.
None, stay at a hotel!! Leave a Comment

Big 'soft pack' bags. Duffel type bags are good. Bring EMPTY bags too. You will buy much stuff. If you don't buy, you will regret it. I'm not a shopper. 11 years ago, on my first trip (when I WAS a poor backpacker) I didn't buy anything. I made up for it on this trip, big grin!!!
Sneakers (tennies) and cotton socks & tevas/birks... That's about all you need. Clothing wise: Tanks and shorts and a decent sarong for Temple Hopping (Sash too!) I wore dresses also, however.
Mossie spray & lotion (Deng and Malaria are a reality, particularly in rainy season). Suntan lotion as well. You can naturally buy it in Bali, but it may not be the variety you have at your own store.
This was my 1st totally digital photo trip. I brought two 128 cards and took about 350 photos over 8 days. Didn't quite fill them up & took Hi-Resolution. Had no problem recharging my batteries w/ the transformer provided at the hotel jayakarta (had to take the TV plug out, and put my re-charger in.) I had 3 sets of re-charge. batteries - I traveled w/ 2 sets (one in camera; one as reserve) and had one at the hotel charged. Never had a problem with this method.
Pack VERY lite, in short. Buy your clothes there. Listen up women: all those rayon dresses I buy here in Hawaii that come from Bali?! I found them their for 1/3 the price. In some cases 1/5 the price: I literally bought a BEAUTIFUL dress for $5USD. I can wear it to work. On the Hi-End Side, I bought a LOVELY ensemble (dress w/ jacket) for $35. Bought a couture-quality sundress (lots of detail and hi-end fabric) for $40. Don't Pack Clothes, again... Just BUY them there! You can also have sarongs made or purchase off the street. Basic equipment you need such as personal medicine, sunscreen, tan lotion for sun tanner (I carried traditional herb mask to overcome my skin after sun burnt), small bottle of hand sanitizer that come in handy when you need it, wet tissue (it’s very useful, since in some places it is needed when you go to toilet, I usually carry a small bottle of water for toilet purpose for the similar reason)
If you opt for jungle trek, it’s always wise to bring more medicine, such as dextamine in case if you develop allergy for bee sting, betadine, handyplast and lotion for insect bite. Mosquito repellant is always useful. If you are into water activities, bring your own google or snorkel are always useful. But, surfing board is not necessary, it is available for renting, unless if you develop bonding with your own board.
Some people carry condom with them. They said you never know where you are going to end up. Hm…I think it’s much a wise idea to protect you from Sexual Transmitted Disease. But the best option for this is apply safe sex…and avoid as much as possible having sex with strangers which are quite common in Bali after a long happy night. Leave a Comment

Packing is an art, at least for me. I usually stuffed my bag only to find that I need more space for my shopping activity. Sometimes I carry too much, but many times I pack so few …and it’s a good reason to shop : ) Dear fellow, a good suggestion for you, although you are not into shopping, and although I vowed that I would not shop, just simply sightseeing, usually it is wiser to give space in your bag for new stuffs you found in Bali. Some people I met in Bali made bet to amuse themselves whether the guest that they accompanied can resist themselves from shopping….usually it’s fruitful for those who bet for “shopping”
What to pack? Since I combine both mountain and beach in my travel wish list, I brought both stuffs that suitable for that. I brought my trekking shoes as well as pretty flip flop. A warm pullover and raincoat, comfy trouser and day backpack. But also I equipped myself with swimwear, tops for the beach, t-shirt for daily activity and also pashmina in neutral color for handy cover up in Pura. Sarong…I did not bother to carry with me, I know that I will buy them in Bali. It’s always wise to bring a decent dress/t-shirt if you are tempted to go to one of top end places like restaurant or top end club. But, in Kuta, you can always get nice dress. Leave a Comment
