The Sateria Melia Bali: Pubs on the beach
Helpfulness
LotusV8 256 reviews
Very nice staff, a lot of tourists, you have a lot of western people to talk to about your experiences, and the local staff joins the discussions - very nice!
The food is asolutely 1:st class but a bit expensive, the lobster was cheap :)
The pub/restaurant is located close to the beach, you can hear the waves all the time, nice music - but not much of Bali here.
I liked it a lot anyway!

A friendly cabdriver
Helpfulness

Taxidrivers are chasing everyone all the time, and its not only a result after the bomb, tourists are slowly coming back and the drivers try to get your attention, some are rude and some are not, when you find a nice one, it is easy to make him drive you around Bali, they normally speak English quite well.
We paid about 350-400 000 Rupiah (30 EUR) and that is for a 12 hour trip! petrol and parkingtickets included - fantastic. We had a great time with our driver, and he picked us up every second day during our stay (we had to rest some of the days, and sunbathing ofcourse).
The last day he invited us to his home outside Kuta, we met his wife and his beautiful daughters, we drank some Balinese coffee and some local liquer.
We also visited his parents in north of Bali a few days before and it was quite exiting too, his father served me their local food, a very spicy dish of rice and some vegetables, we took a bath in the same volcanic springs that our driver was plaing with when he was a young boy - unforgettable!!

What’s the story behind Nusa Dua? Part 1
balisunshine Says:
It was in the late 1960's that Nusa Dua was justan obscure strip of coast on Bali's southern Bukit Peninsula, with striking white sand beaches and two peninsular islets. It was the resting place of fishermen. The only access was by a road over the Bukit (hill), because the...
Bad massage
Helpfulness
LotusV8 256 reviews
The massage is quite expensive compared with Thailand (25-30 US$). We found some ladies 2-300 meters from Melia Bali at the beach, that offered us massage and the price was only half of the price asked at the luxuryhotels, it looked o.k but it was all fake, they was just rubbing us with some oil (maybe oliveoil with perfume) and their hands was very sandy, it felt terrible. Try to avoid these ladies. Go for the real thing and pay full price.
The pic shows you one of the zillions small huts for relaxing Balinese massage.

Snorkelling close to the beach
Helpfulness
imolinar 17 reviews
we went for a snorkeling trip close to the beach, they charge I think 30 US. Dont go, save ur money, the reef is really small, lots of boats polluting and making the place dangerous, also there was no safety, I almost drown. You can see on the picture the water is not that nice!
Fun Alternatives: Go for snorkeling somewhere else in Bali.
