I remember with a smile on my face, just 4 years ago when I mentioned about the Oberoi area to an Australian, how she responded that it was way too far away. She insisted that the place to be was in Kuta. In such a short time, this area has grown with large popularity, opening new shops and restaurants attracting the trendy and cosmopolitan to this area. Mind you, not all Australians remained in Kuta, and we now see a wealthier Ozzy crowd joining where the hip action is. Even the main real estate players have open shop here. Restaurants that are located here include: Taste –Mediterranean and French influence Trattoria-Italian Rumours – Casual and inexpensive dining and this place has a great bar Ku De Ta – ever so poplar, ever so trendy Corner Café – Cool and perfect to watch the whole town drive by Lazumba Cafe – sandwiches and coffee Ultimo Italian influence with a great bar And quite a few more! Bon appetite! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

This German/Swiss/Austrian/Indonesian restaurant has a very eclectic & extensive menu, as one might expect. The prices range from inexpensive to moderate in comparison to other neighborhood restaurants. Here you can find pastas, smoked fish, meatloaf, pork medallions, all manner of potatoes, sweet & sour shrimp, curry bami goreng, etc. The atmosphere is extremely casual. Service can be a bit slow, though you're given a cold towel with which to wipe your hands & face before the start of each meal.
We were hooked on their special salad because their house dressing is off the hook! Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Jalan Werkudara 521; Legian, BaliPhone: 765-047

Many travelers to Legian have recommended Sawasdeekha as a good, inexpensive place to dine. Since it was within walking distance of my hotel (Courtyard Hotel & Apartments), I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was nice & rather romantic -- part of the restaurant consisted of thatched bales with low tables & the other part of the restaurant had regular tables. The restaurant also had a bar & fountain, & was decorated with parasols & many candles. The spa & beauty salon are upstairs.
I only had a shrimp cocktail/salad, which was fine. Leave a Comment Theme: Pan-Asian and Pacific RimPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Jalan Werkudara No. 523; Legian, BaliPhone: 0361-753573

I would normally stay eating only indonesian food in indonesia but this restaurant was recomended so i gave it a try. Its run by gorgious Italian man, Antonio, with his beatiful Balinese girlfriend AND his hard working and wonderful mama-Luigina. (This man has it all worked out!) The food is fantastic. Just like the best you get in Italy. They make their own bread, baked in a wood fired oven. Best coffee!!!(whenever we had western coffee elswhere it was very ordinary and expensive. this was cheap and wonderful ) home made pasta. Its an open air restauraunt with two antique much loved vespers (bikes) The had great low key salsa music playing when we were there.
The ingredients are so fresh. Very authentic Italian We had- Gorganzolia pizza. Pizza Rustica....mmmmmm Huge plate of sardines. 11 of us tried this restaurant as we wandered down Poppies 2 I have to say all the times we have been down here I have never noticed this restaurant I think it could be because of all the dvd & other market stalls that crowd outside the front. We just walked in off the street and the staff could not of been more helpful down stairs was doing a roaring trade so we were shown upstairs after some rearranging of tables we odered drinks. We drank mostly Bintang & Lemonade (shandy) but a few cokes and Bacardi's where thrown in. We had entree's of spring rolls & satay enough for 11. We all had a main meal and half the group has banana splits to finish. The staff were incredibly helpful and offerd to split the bill, we were all quite happy just to split the bill 11 ways. Again the staff produced a calculator while we divided andcounted out our money. As we were leaving the manager apporached and asked if everyhting was ok he also offered us transport back to our hotel down in Tuban. We declined this s offer as we were taking our relatives who were Bali first timers to see the Bali bombing monument he then told us if we want to come another night just ring and he will send his driver to pick us up. We all went away completely satisfied unfortunately not one of us had a camera!!
Everyone enjoyed their meals and there is plenty to choose from I had a pizza which had plenty of topping. The banana splits looked pretty good and there wasnt much left in any of the bowls!! This used to be the old Ramayana Bridge Restaurant before they renovated and updated the place. Now it is a lovely modern ambient restaurant that has great food and staff. Where it once had a wall partly protecting it from the road it is all open which, when eating at peak times gives you lots of interesting driving techniques to watch as the traffice all try to get around that tight area by the Kuta market. There are welcome cold towels on arrival and warm "welcome bread rolls" There is a substantial menu split into sections pizza, Indonesian, Western plus a good cocktail & wine list. Gone are the days of rock music blaring out from restaurants there was very pleasant background music quiet enough to be able to chat but loud enough that you arent listening to the next tables conversation. A little more expensive than many of the smaller restaurants but still very reasonable we paid approx $AU40 on each visit we had a glass of wine each plus a diet coke meal & dessert and came away feeling very satisfied. Went back Feb 08 the food & service were just as good as previous visits.
We tried several different meals on the 2 seperate occasions and found the food to be beatufifully presented as you can see from the pics and tasted great. I loved the Indonesian Ayam Pelellah Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Cnr Bakungsari & Kartika PlazaDirections: Opposite Kuta Art Markets.

Dining at Jimbaran is an experience. It is more for the ambience . The whole stretch of Jimbaran are pack with seafood restaurants. The restaurants provide free transfers to/fro your hotel.
Here seafood are charge according to weight. You choose the seafood and have it cooked to your choice eg. grilled, deep fried or steam. Dishes are served with spicy Balinese sambal. Theme: SeafoodComparison: more expensive than average

Warungs can be found easily in Bali. My regular haunt is the one along the stretch of kuta Beach next to the Kuta Art market. These warungs are run mainly by the Javanese and serve delicious halal food like Bakso, Gado gado, Sate, Nasi Goreng, Nasi Campur, Pisang Goreng and rujak. YUMMY!!!! Here you eat and blend in with the locals and not to miss is a glass of kopi tubruk to end your meal. Watch the surfers, sun-bathers and the many locals offering massage, hair -pleats, manicure n pedicure as well as trying to sell sarongs and tee-shirts to the tourist on the beach.
One of my favourite dish here is Mee Bakso. Basically beef-balls and noodles in a rich thick broth. The local nasi goreng is a very filling meal by itself and it is spicy, tasty, comes with a fried egg, vegetables and Prawn Crackers. Rujak in Indonesia comprises of mix cut fruits with a sour sweet sauce of tamarind juice mixed with palm-sugar and chilli. Nasi goreng here cost Rp5000-8000 which is more or less S$1. Theme: Street VendorDirections: Pantai Kuta just next to the Art Market in Kuta.
