Casa Luna, Ubud: Best food I have had in a long while!

by girllrig

I ate at this restaurant every day I was in Ubud and even ordered more from their bakery to take back to the hotel and gorge upon later on. Absolutely excellent menu. They have a guesthouse too though I did not look inside... good location though.

Available at any Restaurant: Traditional Rice Wine

by bpacker

This news suck but apparently there are some religious groups who are trying their darnest to make alcoholic beverages illegal in Indonesia. So, there is this disctinct possibility that in the future, beer and wine would not be available at all in Bali or can only be served in international hotels and only to foreigners! This piece of news suck for the Hindu Balinese as they enjoy *Arak, Tuak, and Brem (yes, they are all alcoholic) . It is a tradition for their men to meet in the evening to gossip or yak about the news of the day and get stoned on their rather potent homemade moonshine. *crBrem- black glutinous rice and coconut milk is fermentated for 3 days and the alcohol content is (7% to 9%) . Arak- A colourless, sugarless spirit distilled from either Brem or Tuak with a whopping 20% to 50% alcohol content. A whole bottle costs about Rupiah 8,000, and it is usually served on the...

The Eatery at Bali Adventures: Gd ol' American Burger

by bpacker

I can't explain - but there is this need to chomp down on a burger when you're feeling particularly stressed. Well, I brought the stress on myself after I leapt off a rock into a fast flowing river during a white-water rafting break in Bali, Ubud. Well, after the ride, I was in need of food and guess what I chose? Yes, an American burger, fatty beef patty and all. Thank God they have this. Oh yes, and also a beer of course.White water rafting at Bali Adventures was good. After your adventure, you have a warm shower ( with nice clean towels ) waiting for you + a decent eatery + even a video tape of your (mis)adventures.

So many but "Uluwatu Cafe" is very good.: Jimbaran bay seafood

by austarman

There are many restaurants here that have their tables out on the sand, going right down almost to the beach. You can choose your own fish, prawns, squid or lobsters (live) on the way in and they will cook your order and have it to you with drinks and numerous side dishes within about 25-30 minutes. These restaurants are open for dinner or lunch but at night in the candlelight it is really relaxing with the waves rolling in as your background ambiance. The BBQ seafood is very tasty and the price depends on the weight of the order. I have different fish each time but last time I enjoyed the prawns and the red snapper served with rice and side dishes. The Bintangs helped it all go down very well.

Warung Nasi depan Hard Rock!

by vicka

Well, maybe this place won't be on your list to eat. lol. But as an Indonesian backpacker, I don't mind to eat there while my stomach was crying for lunch. The owner told me that they sell the food in front of Hard Rock in Kuta Beach since 13 years ago! It means they started their business in 1994. The food they served is home made food such as chicken curry, fresh vegetables, etc chicken curry!

Warung Dayu's: Authentic Indoesian Food

by efoo

Good ambience next to the street Gado Gado (boiled vegetable, eggs n crackers with special peanut sauce) at 10 000 Indonesian RP. Its peanut sauce taste great as compared to the rest with just peanut taste. Ask to go light on its chilli for those who can't take spicy food.

Zula & Earth Cafe: Eating “Good Foods”

by balisunshine

If you don’t care for the creamy sauces, the white flour, dairy products, white sugar, deep fried food, vegetables and fruits filled with pesticides, meats full of hormones, MSG, etc.then there is an alternative choice available here in Bali.Zula and Earth Café!Yummy organic food & boosting juices are served here.Dishes are based on a macrobiotic menu, full of nutrients and made with lots of love.At Zula, there is also a small grocery store. This isn’t just a restaurant serving healthy food, it’s a “Whole Life Concept’.The owner, Liat lives and follows this way of lifeand can also provide you with guidelines on how to cure through foods and in a holistic way. It’s also a great place to meet other mind like people. So, for you healthy eaters out there, this is the place to go!Luv ya’Liat and thanks!ZulaJl Dyana Pura No. 5SeminyakTel. 361-732-080E-mail downtoearth@dps.centrin.net.idEarth CaféJl....

Shanti Warong: On Blue Lagoon Beach

by egonwegh

1 June 2006: unique surroundings, view of Blue Lagoon Beach just outside Padangbai on the east coast of Bali. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere (with Japanese lady practising yoga...). The word 'Shanti(h)' pronounced three times constitutes, as I've read somewhere, the formal ending to an Upanishad - spiritual texts of Hinduism - and the meaning of the words is 'the peace that surpasses understanding'. I don't know if that meaning was intended here also, but it was a very peaceful place indeed! Club sandwich and pasta.
