Dulang Cafe: Dulang Cafe

by lyrad

There have been mixed reviews from Vt'ers about the food here, but I've eaten at this restaurant each time I've been in Bali and have never been disappointed with the food. The service however admittedly can be improved. Must trys at Dulang include their nasi goreng (fried rice) which I personally think is one of the best I've had in Bali. Would recommend that you wash that down with a refreshing Ice Lemongrass tea or with a banana shake.

Made's Warung: Made's Warung - Great Local Food

by lyrad

I've been told that presidents and royalty dine at this restaurant whenever they are in Bali. After trying the food, I'm not surprised why! There are two outlets, Made's Warung I is located in the main Kuta shopping belt (smaller set up), while Made's Warung II is located in Seminyak and is a little more spacious. We ordered satay (indonesian kebads), gado gado (indonesian salad), a grilled fish and papaya rib curry and everything was delicious! They do have a western menu too, and the food must be pretty good as we noticed a number of foreigners all attacking their food with gusto.

Murni's Warung: Murni's Warung - eat overlooking a waterfall!

by lyrad

I found out about this restaurant from the recommendation of another Vt'er and I must say that I wasn't disappointed! Overlooking a waterfall, the main entrance to this restaurant is actually on the top floor. Make your way down to the lowest level and dine with the sounds of the water cascading down the rocks below you.Besides the unique setting, the food here is also quite good. You probably won't go wrong ordering one of their daily specials. We had no complaints with the nasi kuning, local chicken stew and frogs legs fried in butter and garlic that we ordered. If you have space, try also their thick chocolate shake for desert - absolutely heavenly!

Bebek Bengil 1 - Dirty Duck Diner: Must try the "dirty" duck!

by lyrad

This famous restaurant in Ubud has moved to a new location along Padang Tegal Road, parallel to the main Monkey Forest Street. There is a lot more space here, and you have the choice to dine in your own pavillion (sitting on cushions Japanese style) or on regular tables. There is only one dish you should order here, which is the Balinese fried duck special. You can choose to have your finger licking good deep fried duck accompanied by western sides (salad & potatoes) or local sides (gado gado and rice). Makes for an extremely satisfying meal!

Popular with expats the food isn't the cheapest in bali but the quality and quantity is so worth the money. Very friendly bar and restuarant. Too hot to eat???

by balisunshine

Tingling ginger sautes, rich and creamy peanut sauces, spicy chili toppings that will fire the palate, are of these ingredients are used for many of the dishes here.In the Indonesian standards, the food that we eatin the Western worldis flat and tasteless. When in doubt as to weatherthe dish is spicy hot or not, ask, 'Pedas atau tidak'If the dish is too hot,eat some of the boiled rice, cucumber, a banana or some bread. To make the dish less fiery hot, squeeze a little lemon with some salt over it.Some other ingredients used in Balinese food are:a gritty sea salt (uyah),black (mica selem) and white (mica putih) pepper, candlenuts (tingkih), ginger (jahe), coriander seeds (ketumbah),tiny mild, pear shaped onions (bawang barak),sour tamarind (celagi), and garlic(kesuna).Others such as aromatic roots and leaves,MSG (monosodium glutamate, or pitsin in Balinese),citrus juice (lemo) are added for extra...
