NASI PEDAS IBU ANDIKA

by ancient_traveler

It's a local food stall eatery, on the side of the street. Many dishes to choose to accompany the plain steam-rice, such as: beef skewer, eggs, dried marinated fish, chilly tofu/tempe, etc. The food is generally very hot!

UNGGASAN: NAMMOS BEACH CLUB

by ancient_traveler

Styled after a whimsical folly on some Greek island in the Aegean, complete with indigenous grass roof and bamboo platform, Nammos Beach Club presides over a pristine sweep of white sand and a tranquil turquoise lagoon whose only access is via Karma Kandara’s private inclinator, which carries guests effortlessly up and down 100 meters of sheer limestone cliff. The raised bamboo decking houses a dedicated kitchen, complete with traditional wood-fired pizza oven, and a bar stocked with top shelf liquors, champagne and not to forget, ice-cold beer. Guests can lounge on daybeds, in private pavilions or perch on stools at the bar. Two manicured lawns set with sun lounges, on little bluffs above the sand offer a cool spot for dining. And what would a beach club be without freshly caught fish and seafood? To this end, Nammos offers guests the ultimate in authentic just-caught flavour. Seafood...

UNGGASAN: DI MARE

by ancient_traveler

Suspended 150 meters above the surf on a rocky outcrop, di Mare, (Of the Ocean in Italian) the most dramatically situated destination restaurants in Bali. Its semi-circular dining room, covered in light pre-tensile fabric, is built to resemble a yacht, framing a view of sea and sky that extends to the horizon. The di Mare cellar is stocked with more than 3000 wines from around the world – all of which makes for one of the most memorable fine dining experiences you are ever likely to have – in Bali or anywhere else. An ocean-inspired fine dining menu that delivers the finest Mediterranean style food with a Pan-Asian flourish. Think Spice Crusted Prawns with pea leaves, pods, tendrils and Tahitian vanilla emulsion, or Moroccan Spiced Ahi Tuna with Lentils du Puy, lemon confit and Ligurian olive juice.

Gado Gado: Gado Gado

by SFHulaGIrl

Our intentions were to eat here because of the beautiful location & several recommendations. Also, my significant other was interested in eating seafood. Unfortunately, the particular night we were there, they were out of about 5 of the 7 seafood dishes offered. Nothing else really appealed to us, so we opted to leave.Even though we didn't have a reservation & didn't end up eating there, we were given a beautiful table right on the beach. Service was good. As mentioned before, we opted not to eat after being informed that they were out of the majority of the dishes we were interested in.Do note, however, that Gado Gado is one of the few places in Bali that offered 4 or 5 ITALIAN wines by the glass! Prices were not exorbitant, either, for U.S. standards. While other places in Bali offered French or Italian wines for about US$15 per glass, the choices at Gado Gado were more reasonably...

Chandi: Fresh & Organic

by SFHulaGIrl

A beautiful restaurant with great food, friendly & attentive service (though sometimes slow) & reasonable prices. There's even a glass-enclosed non-smoking room, which reminded me of being in a little fish bowl! As is typical of many Balinese restaurants, there are lots of wide open spaces in the restaurant. Chandi is a great place for people-watching. On my next visit to Bali, I intend to eat there at least three times! I had dinner at Chandi on two separate occasions. My first dinner consisted of the Large Butter Blended Shrimps in Exploded Rice Sticks (32,000 rp) & the Slow Roasted Chicken Breast with Tomato Sambal, Lettuce, Ginger Yogurt & Crispy Rice Cake (58,000 rp). I also had a Balinese coffee which, believe me, is NOT like a Thai iced coffee, as well as bottled water. Both dishes were extremely good. In fact, they even asked me if I preferred that the chicken breast be served...

Ketupat: Poolside dinner in Legian

by neris29

Very nice restuarant with a huge selection of local food. There are actually 2 locations. The first is along Jalan Legian and the other is at Sri Dewi. I went to the one at Jalan Legian with poolside dining. Aside from the normal chair and table, there are also a number of small huts for those who want more privacy. But the huts can be a little warm if its not a cool night. We liked the special fried rice- Wajan Sawah. It was basically fried rice with a whole lot of other side dishes, like duck, vegetables, etc. It was very filling and definitely enough to feed 2. We had to wait a long time for the dish to come though. Almost everyone else in the restaurant was served before us, which irritated us a bit. Although, I suspect it could be because they need to cook all the other side dishes as well. The barbeque stuff looked good too, although we did not have any. Avoid the tahu telur, it...

Murni's Warung: Ubud Restaurant

by neris29

Fantastic ambience. Overlooking a river and surrounded by greenery, the restaurant is spread out over four levels. The entrance is actually on the 4th and highest floor. The 1st floor is actually almost on the river bank. We had the local dishes which were really nice but what I remember most were the desserts. We had poppy seed cake and a rum infused chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream which were utterly delicious. The chocolate cake especially was full of rum. Fantastic.

Mama's German Restaurant: German Pork Knuckles

by neris29

Mama's is a 24 hour restuarant located along the very busy Jalan Legian. It is therefore one of the few place where you can get food at all times. They have a pretty decent selection of beers but surprisingly no german beer. It was also one of the few establishments I saw which displayed the food safety/hygiene certification. We sat on the second floor at the balcony where we could look down on the traffic below. Its not great scenery but better than nothing I suppose. Without a doubt the pork knuckles is the best thing there. We ordered the special which was the most expensive dish on the menu (Rp 136,900) but its was well worth it. The serving was huge and there was lots of juicy tender meat and fat. You won't be able to eat anything afterwards.

Manalagi: Discovery Shopping Mall Food Court

by neris29

This food court is located at the top floor of Discovery Shopping Mall. Each stall is actually like a mini restaurant with pretty extensive menus. You sit down and they will come and take your order. Most of the stalls there sell Indonesian/Balinese food. Prices are also quite reasonable. However, like most food courts around the world, the quality of the food is ok but probably not the best. We had the Ayam Betutu which is supposed to be a bali speciality. Its basically chicken which has been steamed with different kinds of spices for hours and hours. The meat was tender but not as tasty as I had hoped. Turn out that the meat inside was still a bit cold from the refridgerator where it had obviously been kept.
