Hard Rock Cafe: Live music at Hard Rock

by neris29

Nicely decorated restaurant with all sorts of music memorobilia, in typical Hard Rock Cafe style. One of the the few places in Bali with powerful air-conditioning, so your beer doesn't get warm so quickly. Most people will come for the live band which starts only at 11pm. Before that the place is dead. The band is ok only. They can sing but not much feeling. As with all clubs, there were a lot of people smoking when we were there. Cold but pricey beer.

Kori: Kori

by neris29

Great ambience and good service. Aside from the normal chairs and tables, there are a few outdoor pavilions were customers can also have their meal, sitting on the floor with cushions. However, like most restaurants in Bali there is no air-con so it can get a bit warm. I did get bitten by mosquitoes but I think you can actually request for a mosquito coil if you don't mind the smell. I had the Chicken Fillet Cordon Bleu which was a huge serving and quite nice. I would give it a 6.8 out of 10. My wife had the Ikan Pepes which she found too salty. The soups are nice. We had the Java Corn Chowder and Tortilla Bisque. Both were creamy soups which were quite tasty and filling.

Masakan Padang: yummy yummy Padang food

by BobbieM

When travelling down the bypass you will notice roadside restaurants with piles of bowls in the window- 'MASAKAN PADANG'- written above. These restaurants serve food from Padang ( a city in Sumatra) from these bowls- you will be served rice then you point to what you want and the waiter will pile on your choices. Padang food is typically more 'curried' than Balinese food and fills you up quickly. Typically a plate will cost around 25,000 rp- less than 3$ US. If you're feeling brave, do as the locals do and eat with your hands (I STRONGLY suggest carrying some detol hand sanitizer with you for times like this!) Potato cakes, dried beef

Warung Ku: Jimbaran- Delicious local food

by BobbieM

Jimbaran Bay is known for it's 'world class' seafood. I honestly haven't been that impressed by it and prefer to stick to local dishes such as Sate, Mie and Nasi Goreng. However the seafood grills along the beach (they are ALL next to each other) charge ridiculous amounts for local dishes ( eg. 55,000 rp for nasi goreng) If you would like some good wholesome local food in Jimbaran check out Warung Ku- when you reach the parking lot of the beachside cafes, head towards the beach and look to your left. The lady who works there is called Putu, and is a lovely woman. She speaks english very well and is happy to teach you some 'bahasa indonesia' if you so wish! Keep in mind this is by no means a 'romantic' spot, with plastic stools and communal tables- but well worth it. If you'd like, ask Putu to bring a table down to the beach for you. Mie Goreng special (with an egg on top) will cost you...

The Legian Restaurant: Fine Dining in Seminyak

by Svitata

The Restaurant at The Legian turns into a romantic enclave when night falls and it's absolutely soothing to hear the waves splashing against the shore while you dine. Food is exceptional and of course, you are charged fine dining prices! But I must say it is well worth the money, for the interesting menu, ambience and excellent service level rendered. I would probably have to pay much more back home for the same level of dining experience! Definitely recommended if you feel like splurging a little on a romantic dinner for 2. Capellini with ebi and konbu, yummy!

Dirty Duck's Diner aka Bebek Bengil: Invasion of Commercialism

by Svitata

I had given this restaurant a glowing review many years back when i first travelled to Ubud. They were smaller and cosier, and had a much better menu and service. However, during my recent trip to Ubud, I found the service to be basic, and the menu items much reduced. It was as if they were trying to minimize food cost by serving a few basic dishes and to my disappointment, the crispy duck which they are famous for was sold out on the night that I had especially travelled there to eat! Now how can a restaurant run out of their signature dish at just 8pm? Strange enough, there was a table of four who arrived about 20 mins before I left the restaurant who were served the crispy duck...hmm.... The dishes my boyfriend and I ordered were tasty enough and prices remain very affordable. However, I can only sum up my experience as a letdown and I'm probably resigned to having my fond memories of...

Ultimo: Better when it's Dark!

by Svitata

The is a relatively Italian restaurant situated next to the popular Trattoria in Seminyak. The front decor of the restaurant exudes a modern chic design with a generous use of black, it definitely looks cool to be dining at a place like this. Inside, there is an outdoor sitting under the stars and it is advisable to sit there when it's dark cos the white table cloth and seat covers they use look spotted and stained. We made the mistake of going there when there's still enough daylight to witness this, so it kind of dented the dining experience a little. They do have a pretty good Italian menu but the wine list is not inspiring. Food quality is not bad, but neither is it lip-smacking good. Nonetheless, it is good value for money.

Ibu Oka, Ubud: Sumptious Babi Guling (Pork dish)

by teevee

This is the best place to have 'babi guling' dish. Ibu Oka is the most famous restaurant. Lots of locals go there and there were tourists like us too. It is rice with pork mainly. It is very filling so go with an empty stomach. Go early before lunch crowd coz u might have difficult finding a place to sit. Even sharing a table may not be as easy.Nothing funny tasting/funny ingrediants. All well cooked.PS:I think it opens for lunch only 11.30am-3pm approx. Very popular so don't go late or the pork may be sold out. Babi guling
