Those funny looking food carts
Off the main roads of Bali, you’ll often find peddling vendorswith their mobile food carts. These are called Kaki Limas. The name comes from the fact that originally they all had five legs (kaki = leg; lima = five): two wheels, a back stand and two legs on the guy pushing it. These vendors sell a variety of tasty local food.Common dishes are bakso (meatball soup),rujak cingur (spicy vegetables with peanut sauce), mie ayam (chicken noodle soup), and tupat tahu (spicy veges and tofu). These vendors announce their arrival byhitting the side of a bowl or a wood block. Often the vendors are from other islands such as Java. The hot food is served out of a pot which is kept hot with a burner and sauces and noodles are added. Vendors bring their own dishes and cutlery. They also carry buckets to wash the plates but as there is often no running water available the plates are not always the cleanest...
