    Art Shop: Great Art everywhere

by nezz Written Mar 4, 2014

My friend had decided she wanted a dot painting. She had seen one that a mutual friend had brought back from Bali that was really well priced. So after the Sunday night Babi Gulang at ling longa bar we had to walk up Jalan Mertasari to get a taxi in Jl Danau Tambligan . On the way we called into a few of the art market stalls . Although we saw loads of lovely artwork it wasn't until the very last art shop in what looked like an old underground garage that we found a fantastic black and white dot painting. She commissioned the artist to do it in a smaller size and it was ready and delivered to the hotel 2 days later

What to buy: Art is every where in Sanur and varies according to taste.

What to pay: As cheap as $20 for a small painting. Rolled up ready for the suitcase

THIS IS IT- BOUTIQUE TAILOR & TEXTILES: Sadly still closed 2014

by nezz Updated Feb 15, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Update 2014 still nothing in this stretch of Sanur.

Sadly in 2012 it was closed and the whole block is being renovated something new will take its olace...ON AN EARLY MORNING WALK ALONG JL DANAU TAMBLIGAN , THE MAIN ROAD IN SANUR I SAW THIS DRESS BOUTIQUE. IT HAD A GOOD DISPLAY IN IT'S FRONT WINDOW & THE CLOTHES WERE A LITTLE BIT MORE UP MARKET THAN THE USUAL BALI TOURIST SOUVINIER TYPE CLOTHING. LATER IN THE DAY I WENT IN FOR A LOOK. IT WAS A GREAT EXCUSE TO GET OUT OF THE SUN. INSIDE THERE WAS A GOOD SELECTION OF WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS RESORT WEAR STYLE CLOTHING.

What to buy: I FOUND A SUNDRESS WITH A GATHERED BUST AREA & A HALTER NECK STRAP . IT WAS FULL LENGTH TO THE FLOOR. IT WAS MADE FROM A JERSY STRETCH MATERIAL AND IN MOTTLED BROWN PRINT. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR WHEN I WANTED TO COVER UP BY THE POOL, AT LUNCHTIME. AT HOME I WEAR IT AT THE END OF A HOT DAY AFTER MY SHOWER AS IT IS SO COMFORTABLE & WASHES REALLY WELL.

What to pay: THE DRESS WAS MORE THAN THE USUAL BAGGY BALI SUNDRESSES BUT IT WAS STYLISH & ONLY A LITTLE MORE AT 90,000 RP $12 aud

Fair Trade Shop: Buying goods at a fair price

I was really pleased to stumble on this shop. Selling goods from many places across the archipelago, this Fair Trade Shop ensures the producers get a good price for their wares. There is a wide range of products available including items made from wood, material, incense and fresh organic produce.

What to pay: Prices are fixed, but you are sure to get a fair price, both for you and the producer.

Various shops on Jalan Danau Tamblingan: Plenty of tourist treats

by Daihappydai Updated Dec 19, 2012
A typical souvenir stall in Sanur

You don't need to be in Kuta or Legian to pick up cheap Balinese souvenirs. There are plenty of shops/stalls along Jalan Danau Tamblingan in Sanur where you can bargain for wood products, batik and many other souvenirs. Far less hassling than in Kuta, far less 'massage mister'. Stall owners seem more relaxed and allow you to have a really good look without making you feel uncomfortable.

Hardy's Supermarket Sanur: All basic needs and souvenirs under one roof

by Daihappydai Written Nov 10, 2012
Hardy's Supermarket Sanur for all your needs

Hardy's Supermarket is a huge store selling everything from fresh produce and fresh bread to foodstuffs, toilettries, hardware and souvenirs.
It is especially worth a visit if you are travelling to outer islands and need to purchase goods such as mosquito coils, batteries and toilettries before you go.
It is also worth a visit if you want to pick up Bali coffee or other pachaged goods before going to the airport to return home - you'll find the prices much cheaper than at the airport.
Hardy's also has a wide range of cheap souvenirs, but these can generally be purchased more cheaply at street stalls.

SARINAH SUPERMARKET--NOW Sadly CLOSED: NICE CLEAN AIRCONDITIONED SHOP

by nezz Updated Nov 26, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

WE VISITED THIS SUPERMARKET TIME & TIME AGAIN. THE STAFF WERE LOVELY SUPERMARKET PRICES REASONABLE AND ALL AIRCONDITIONED. THEY EVEN OPENED THE SHOP EARLY FOR US AS WE WAITED OUT THE FRONT. ON OUR LAST DAY THEY TOLD US WE HAD BEEN ONE OF HEIR BEST CUSTOMER'S IN THE LAST WEEK & OFFERED ME A 50% DISCOUNT ON THE PUNCHED METAL WORK I HAD ADMIRED.

What to buy: CHEAP COLD DRINKS AS THEY DON'T PUT A SURCHARGE ON WHEN YOU BUY THEM COLD. SOME SHOPS DO IN BALI. BOUGHT LOADS OF FACIAL WASHES SO CHEAP HERE. I ALSO BOUGHT MY BALI COFFEE TO TAKE BACK HOME AS GIFTS . THE KIDS BODY WASH CAME WITH A FREE GIFT AND THEIR TRADITIONAL LINIMENTS AND RUBS WERE A GOOD PRICE TOO.

THEY ALSO DON'T CHARGE A 2% SURCHARGE TO USE VISA WHICH IS NICE.

  • Maya's Coffee & Smoothie Bar: Swedish Snus (snuff) in Bali

by kimsil Updated Jan 28, 2011
Swedish Snus from Maya's Coffee & Smoothie Bar
    1 more image

It's not really a shop since Maya's Coffee & Smoothie bar is primarily a café. However after visiting in January 2011, I found they have expanded the premises and started selling Swedish Snus (form of tobacco).

Ok, prices are higher than home but perfect for Snus-loving people on long haul travel...

What to buy: Snus... Besides the healthy snacks (mainly breakfast and sandwiches), coffee or smoothies...

What to pay: 70.000 IDR for one snus.

JENY 29: NO BARGAINING HASSLE HERE

by nezz Written Sep 23, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    great shopping

THEY CALL HER NO BULLDUST JENY AS SHE HAS ONE OF THE VERY FEW FIXED PRICE SHOPS IN THE SINDHU BEACH MARKETS. SHE CAN TALK AND SOMETIMES DOESN'T KNOW WHEN TO STOP BUT SHE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND WILL ORDER IN STUFF YOU MAY HAVE SEEN ELSEWHERE. HE ALSO TRIES TO GET IN THE LARGER SIZED T SHIRTS ETC. SHE SEEMS TO KNOW THE MODERN STUFF WE LIKE.

What to buy: SHE HAS THE FULL RANGE FROM SHIRTS, SHIRTS, DRESSES, BAGS, SHOES, SANDALS, THONGS AND NOW A GREAT RANGE OF JEWELLERY.

What to pay: HER PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE AND FIXED SO NO WORRIES ABOUT BEING RIPPED OFF. WE TRIED TO BARGAIN DOWN AT SOME OTHER STALLS BUT THEY WOULD NOT GO THAT LOW.

DENPASAR FOTO CENTER: CHEAP MINI MARKET IN SANUR

by nezz Written Sep 23, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

THIS IS A LITTLE MINI MARKET WE USED WHEN WE STAYED IN BUMI AYU BUNGALOWS AS IT WAS A SHORT WALK AND VERY REASONABLY PRICED. ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T LARGE WE USED IT TO GET BEERS, COOL DRINKS, ICE CREAMS, LOLLIES AND CHIPS TO SAVE THE TIME & TAXI FAIR TO THE LARGER SUPERMARKET DOWN THE STREET. BALI IS FULL OF THESE LITTLE SHOPS AND I LIKE TO USE THEM WHERE POSSIBLE AS I'M SURE THE BIG CHAIN TYPE SHOPS LIKE CIRCLE K & 7-11'S ARE TRYING TO DO THEM OUT OF BUSINESS.

What to buy: THIS SHOP ALSO HAD A PHOTO PROCESSING LAB AT THE BACK WHICH ALWAYS SEEMED BUSY.
BESIDES THE REGULAR STUFF IN SMALL MINI MARTS YOU CAN PICK UP SMALL STATIONARY LINES AND FIRST AID AT QUITE CHEAP PRICES SO SOMETIMES ITS GOOD TO HAVE A LITTLE LOOK AROUND.

What to pay: WE SHOPPED AROUND AND THIS ONE SEEMED THE CHEAPEST AND LOOKED THE CLEANEST TOO

    FRYDA COLLECTION: LEATHER

by aussiejen Written Aug 14, 2005

    FRYDA'S COLLECTION

I found this little shop down a side street in Sanur. It is on the way to INNA SHINDU BEACH HOTEL. The guy who owns it is really nice.
He has a selection of bags, belts, wallets, sandals, shoes etc for sale. You can order a leather jacket or dress to be made for you.
I have bought leather bags from him 2 years in a row now. Make sure you bargain with him. Of course the more you buy, the better the deal.
He told me that he's negotiating a deal to move to another shop out on the main street soon., hoping for more business.

    TINA'S SHOP: BEACHFRONT SHOPPING

by aussiejen Written Aug 14, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    TINA'S SHOP

While you're wandering along the beachfront at Sanur, make sure you stop for a look at Tina's Shop. She is next to The Besakih Hotel. She's not pushy like a lot of the other people hanging around the beach who want to drag you off to their shops. She will either try to sell you something or offer to give you a massage. She's lovely, but do remember to bargain with her.

What to buy: Tina has a lot of sarongs, dresses, skirts, pants or evn men's shirts. She also has kites that her son makes.
