QuickSliver, Billabong, Volcom, RipCurl & bla..bla: Surfer goods & beach wear...

by zafilm

Shop till you drop. Here in kuta had alot to offer you from anything to everything. Im enjoy visiting some of the boutique here in Kuta. I find it a lots of variety where Singapore has rather limited variety & good design are hard to find. Beach wear from slippers, sunglasses, hat and more 100,000 to 400,000 rupiah. Depends on what you buy.

Balinese Painting

by chatterley

We bought this painting for about 23SGD (Singapore Dollar). The seller quoted us a much higher price initially, but we managed to bargain till we had a 60% discount. This picture is now hanging on our living room wall.Balinese paintings usually depict natural scenery, local people, traditions and festivals, animals and plants, etc. We chose this painting with flowers and birds, cos' of the bright colours. It goes very well with our light green sofa cushions!

Hats

by bryINpoland

When it comes to your average baseball cap, or surf cap, you are looking at some really great prices, and decent hats.Every other shop has them, so shop around. I wouldnt pay over 30,000 to 40,000 Rp. ($3.80 AU to $5 AU $2.80 to 3.8 US ) In most of the shops that i got hats at, the asking price started as high as 230,000 ($23 US) but after holding strong at 30,000 Rp, and walking away a few times, i got my fair deal.Remeber to always look for that fair deal. Where you are happy with the price, and the shop owner makes a decent profit as well. That way we all get along...

Plaza Bali: Luxury shopping in Kuta

by cvilla007

Plaza Bali is the newest (as of August 2005) of the shopping centers catering to wealthy tourists. We got a package from our travel agency guide once we got to Bali that included many things, one of which was a brochure for Plaza Bali. It included coupons for a free taxi ride to Plaza from our hotel, a free gift of coffee, and a free lunch. Well, after witnessing what I'd seen in Kuta and Ubud the day before, I didn't expect much. But we decided to go, and I was a bit pleasantly surprised. For one, they don't get anyone but the Japanese tourists, so expect them to be shocked if you're a westerner. The free taxi we got, the free coffee, and the free lunch, which happened to be Chinese, and quite delicious. The shopping center has everything for the luxury traveler, expensive goods, name brands, etc. But I liked the handicraft store on the second floor. It had many of the things I saw in...

Ubud market place: Best prices are done by Bargaining in Ubud

by cvilla007

Ubud is about an hour north of Denpasar. It is the handicraft center of Bali. The best prices are gotten here. But you have to bargain and haggle, and walk away, and say no thank you, and then fight, fight, fight for the best price. I made a few of the sales women (most are elderly) upset (maybe they were putting on a show) to get the best price. But again, beware of all the hawkers on the streets trying to stop you and buy stuff. Any souvenir you see in Bali is also available in Ubud. And many shops sitting right next to each other have the exact same goods. Mostly handicrafts, masks, handmade toys, and soaps, and rings, fake watches, fabrics, sarongs, etc. etc.And then there are the remarkable, truly amazing and beautiful art carvings and paintings. These are much more expensive, but are truly show the heart of Bali culture. Always cut their offer in half if it seems too high. If...

Local fruit stall: FRESH FRUIT

by aussiejen

Make sure you stop at one of these local fruit stalls. They can be found all over Bali, often on the side of the road in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. You will be encouraged to try the fruit, but you will be frowned upon if you don't buy anything. The fruit is really cheap so it doesn't hurt to buy some even if you don't really want it. You will be helping the local economy!Make an effort to try something you've never tasted before...... you might even like it!

Wooden Hands

by bryINpoland

If you are looking for a great gift idea while in Bali, at an afforable price, then i recommend taking a look at the beautiful hand carved wooden hands that are perfect for keeping those extra diamond rings on, or any other jewelery.Prices will vary from shop to shop, but an average price paid is around 30,000 to 50,000 Rp. ( $4 to $7 AU $3 to $5 US) Shop around, since you find the quality of the product will very from shop to shop. Most shops ask an opening price of 80,000 to 125,000 Rp, but you can easily get those prices down to the recommended buying price.

Bargain Shopping

by bryINpoland

I am not going to go into the secrets of bargaining at this very moment. Half the fun is figuring it out yourself.I am going to remind people of what their goal should we when bargaining.Just remember, when trying to get the price down on things you are interested in buying. Your goal shouldnt be to be cut throat and get the lowest price possible. It's to get the most fairest price possible.Ofcourse you want to save a buck or two, and you should while shopping in Bali. But lets not forget that the Shop owner needs to earn a living too. Most of the time you dont need to worry, they will make their money, but just remember to be kind to the people of Bali, and to only pay what you feel comfortable paying. If you cant afford to pay a fair price, then maybe you shouldnt be shopping in the first place...

Village of Celuk: Buying Silver

by TravelSimone

Celuk is the best place on Bali to buy silver. The main street is literally lined with silver houses. Some of these do not look like normal jewelery stores. Many look like non-descript buildings with a small parking lot in the front. Others, do look like a store front. On the back streets of Celuk you will also find jewelery shops with smaller selections, but the prices should be even better. You will be surprised at the variety of silver items that will be available. There are many more choices available in Celuk than you will find on Jl Legian (Kuta and Legian). In the main tourist centers you will see the same jewelry in all of the stores, whereas in Celuk you should be able to find something more unique. Many of the shops in Celuk also sell gold. You should plan on bargaining HEAVILY in these stores. I estimate that you can get some items for 25 to 50% of the listed price. If it is...

Gouging Galleries

by GK2005

Galleries in Bali generally are nice places to do window shopping but atrociously expensive to buy. Most of them places get shoppers delivered to them as part of tour packages and the prices are highly inflated. If you want to do shopping in Bali, head to the general markets where you can buy the same thing for a fraction of the cost. It does involve a lot of bargaining and its an experience by itself. Majority of the shopkeepers in the markets expect you to bargain and so there is no animosity involved. In fact, its so much fun just bargaining with them. If there is a huge price difference between what you offer and what they quote, then you can walk away without any bitterness on either side. A lot of times the traders will politely turn you down if you are not near their asking price. Galleries also offer some kind of bargaining but the quoted prices are so atrocious that at even 50%...
