Bali Design at various Shops: a spot of Bikini Shopping !

by Wild_Orchid

Ladies, if you're from Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand where the variety of swimwear is rather limited & nice bikinis are hard to find, (or if you are a guy who would like to see his lovely lady wearing a bikini), don't miss out on a spot of bikini shopping while in Bali. There are numerous shops at Kuta & Legian and the choices are pretty good. The locally made Bali Design bikinis (see pics)are priced from 155,000 rupiahs. Bali Design's designer is a lady called Jessie Norman~I think she could be Australian. I also managed to buy one at a clearance price of 50,000 rupiahs. Prices differ from store to store-but with the variety, you would be sure to find something that matches your budget!

Matahari Departmental Store: Shirts for less than USD2!!!

by chatterley

As you all know, shopping is cheap in Bali, but how cheap, you may ask...well, we bought this cotton shirt at Matahari (it was on sale, 40% off the usual selling price), and guess how much it cost? Just SGD3 (slightly more than USD1)!!! Yup, don't bring too many pieces of clothing to Bali, just buy them there!

(Unknown): Hand Bags

by bryINpoland

While in Bali we wanted to by some gifts for some family and friends. Nadine had her heart set on getting some purses, or hand bags for the ladies on our list.Along Poppies Lane II in Kuta, just to the side of the Bounty hote, across from a blue water tower, we found this great shop, with a lovely owner. She had a wide selection of different bags and styles, that were just perfect for unique gifts for people back home. The shop owner was very friendly and spoke excellent english. She didnt waste our time with excessive bargaining, and worked with us to agree on a price that we were more then happy to pay. These are the types of pleasant purchases that can make shopping in Bali so enjoyable. When shopping in the Kuta are, i suggest a visit to Poppie Lane II, and this lovely hand bag shop. I think you will be as happy as were were with the outcome.*** Make sure you are familiar with your...

by samantha_chee

Please change small Rp notes upon departing from your home.We changed Rp One million before departure, all Rp 50000 notes. We faced problem when catch a cab from Denpasar Airport to Kuta town. The driver doesn't has change for our Rp 50000 note! So, be careful.

Money Changer in Legian Street: Currency Note Exchange

by samantha_chee

They prefer USD's big note, i.e. USD 50 or USD 100. The exchange rates stated on their "notice board" are meant for big note. If you only change USD 5 (of course, for Rupiah), you'll get lesser.I found out that exchange rate for money changers at Legian St are higher. It is not advisable to exchange currency notes at airport's money changers. You'll get lower rate. Legian st's money changer pays around 5 % higher than Kuta's money changer for USD 100.

Sukawati: Shop for Souvenir

by samantha_chee

It's an arcade, consisting 2-3 blocks that full of stalls, thousands of them i guess. They are all selling the same thing, T-shirts, key-chain, hand made bags, bangles, photo albums, hand made sandals etc. If you could not bargain to you prefered price at one stall, no worries, go next stall, until you are satisfy! But be realise that with the price you are paying, which is extra cheap, do not expect much for quality. I bought a nice jude sling bag that cost 15000 Rp. It teared off (overloaded?) during my "first carriage"! I also bought a blue T-shirts at only 6000 Rp. The blue color keeps fading everytime i wash it. So... T-shirts. It cost you about 6000 Rp for one. It's a nice souvenir for friends and family as well as for ourselves! Bargain up to 60-80% off the 1st offerred price.

Young Culture

by 31Aug

For the young brand surfing culture. Casual/street wear. Though the prices here are standard for the branded, you may still find it cheaper than elsewhere. Must say that it's a real relief to walk into airconditioned stores like this when you have been walking in the sun all day. Standard. Average USD10 maybe.

DVD shops are everywhere in Kuta area. This is the cheapest DVD I came across, comparing prices of DVDs in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Bali. The shop that I buy from, Softcomp Center, is located in Tuban area, between Discovery Kartika Plaza and Dynasty Hotel, opposite Bali GoKart. This is just one of the many branches of Softcomp in Kuta. DVD movies, selling at 15 piece for just 100000rp. They sell TV series DVDs like Smallville, 24, Sopranos, etc too. 15 for 100000rp

Batubulan: Stone carved statues

by picknick

Just out of Denpasar on the road to Ubud is a small village call Batubulan, where stone statues of a terrible fanged demons, noble warriors and animals of all shapes and sizes and at all stages of completion rest under the shady trees. From the young boys to the old men, all seem to be accomplished stone carvers in Batu Bulan. Traditionally, stone sculptures carved from soft volcanic rock (paras) were used to for temples and palaces. The craftsmen can make practically anything you request from a character in a famous Balinese story to a garden gnome. Items from all over Indonesia can actually also be found here. Serious buyers may well find a great bargain. The craftsmen can make up your order and even arrange to ship it to your address back home. Stone sculptures carved from soft volcanic rock
