Indonesian Currency: I am a millionaire!

by Callavetta

Indonesian currency reminds me of Italy before the Euro, when 2,000 lire equalled one dollar. When I went to pay for my Visa, the agent told me $25 USD or 222,000 Indonesian. So a 100,000 glass of wine seems like a fortune, and the million I took from the ATM made me feel wealthy, but it took a lot of those 50,000 bills to pay my $25 USD visa!

Sukawati Art Market: Cheap Shopping

by sangria07

Sukawati is a traditional market selling local arts and crafts as well as clothes. This is possibly the best place to source souvenirs for your Bali trip. Starting prices here are much lower compared to Ubud market and other places that your tour might take you to. Remember though that the prices stated are by no means what you should pay for. When in Bali, you really need to hone your bargaining/haggling skills! There are many stalls selling the same stuff so competition between the stall owners are steep. Don't be surprised to find yourself surrounded by a few of them pleading with you to buy their wares. I even had a couple paw at me. Nothing to worry about though - they are not abusive or anything like that. Be polite but firm in saying "No"If you are claustrophobic like me, you might have a bit of problems staying in there for too long. The walkway inside the market is extremely...

Rituals: Rituals

by SFHulaGIrl

Rituals is unique in that it's both a coffee shop/restaurant with a beauty salon upstairs. It's large & modern. I stopped by to have my hair colored (450,000 IDR) & blow dried/ironed (100,000 IDR).I thought it very expensive for Bali, but service was good.

Demon Tattoo: Tattoo Me!

by SFHulaGIrl

It was my last night in Bali & I was determined to get another tattoo. Around 8:15 p.m. on a Sunday night, we cruised past this shop on our motorbike. We stopped to ask how late they were open (10:00 p.m.), then proceeded to pull out my tattoo design & bargain over a price. Once a price was decided upon, we gave Made time to draw up the design while we located an ATM. My tattoo took about 45 minutes for him to do. Made is a self-proclaimed Harley-Davidson aficionado & a way cool guy to boot. Body art, of course! Bargain hard!

Hotel Kumala Pantai Salon & Spa: Hotel Kumala Pantai Salon & Spa

by SFHulaGIrl

A very nice salon & spa housed inside a huge high-end hotel. I ended up here because Brielle Spa was too busy to take me. I had a 1/2 hour foot massage (71,000 rp) & a Biokos Aloe Vera facial (125,000 rp), both of which were given to me at the same time. I then ended with a hair wash & blow dry (75,000 rp) by the very charming, Shy. The foot massage didn't blow me away, by any means, but I have no complaints about the other two treatments. ! one-hour body massage is 159,000 rp; 1 1/2 hour body massage is 205,000 rp; aromatherapy massage is 215,000 rp; highlighting is 399,000 rp to 569,000 rp; waxing is 55,000 rp to 175,000 rp; manicures & pedicures from 62,000 rp to 109,000 rp.
