Learning to Surf in Bali
  • Tip Rating:
  • I decided to accompany my girlfriend
    to a surfing lesson
    just for kicks.

It started with a brutal morning rise,
    because of the tide
    on this particular day,
then a course on basic information
just to understand the ins and outs of surf.

Followed by a physical practice on the ground
    on how to get up,
and off we go to the beach across the street.

    Once in the water,
    the cute instructors were there
to assist with our every moves
    or lets say, attempts.

Different levels are provided for those
of some skills or none at all.

It's guaranteed that you WILL stand up
    on your first lesson.

I'll guarantee that your body muscles
will feel the efforts on the following day.

    Surf boards are provided.
    Private or group lesson scheduled.
1 Day to 4 day lessons available.

    Prices range from $35 - $120 US

Bali is not considered as a diving destination, so my expectations were not extremely high... And I was surprised! Menjangan Island in Taman National Park is a very good diving spot. During the first dive we met mantas!
The divemaster from YOS Marine Adventure Club was very symphatic and with a good sense of humour. Definetely - it was a good experience!

I had my ABC equipment. All the rest was rented from the local dive club. Suit, BC, regulator - all in a very good shape.

Snorkelling and Scuba Diving in Bali
  • Tip Rating:
  • It was my first time trying out snorkelling in the big open sea (I have watched Jaws way too many times) so i was a bit reluctant to give it a go, when my mum just pushed me in anyway...When i finally put my head down to see all the fish beneath me, i was amazed, they were such beautiful colourful fish. Definately something i recommend to anyone. If you have a fear of whats swimming around you like i do, then dont worry, as soon as you see all the wonderful things beneath you, you will leave your fears at the door!!

We were on a cruise that day, and it was a day/night trip to another island. If i knew what it was called i would have put it in, unfortunately im a bit spastic hehe!! I will get back to these tips, when i find out where we were!!! But overall the company were pretty good, they provide food, drink, and all equipment on the whole trip, so no need to worry about what to take, all you need is bikini or spedos =)

  • Many activities such as parasailing, banana boat, jet ski, wakeboarding, water ski, Turtle Island Tour, Sunset Fishing and even diving.

I did parasailing and snorkelling here at Tanjung Benoa, Nusa Dua.

Price advertised in the brochure was $15USD for Parasailing & $25USD for a snorkelling tour ( 1hr )...(Btw, price in the website for parasailing is only $10USD)

The prices in the brochure is still negotiable..So, do not just pay the price and start your activity...

Managed to get the parasailing for $8USD & 15USD for snorkelling tour & rental of equipment.
(I still think that it was a bit expensive as in Malaysia, we can go snorkelling for ard RM30 and less... )

The parasailing activity was fun, but certainly too short! Wished they would let me stay up in the air longer! :)

No need for gear as it is provided... ( with an additional cost, of course! : )

    White Water rafting
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bali offers white water rafting opportunity on the Sungai Ayung River near Ubud. The rapids are only class II so it's suitable for children and beginners. The trip takes about 2 hours and also includes lunch.

The waters are very clear and there is abundant coral and fish and in very shallow water. The fish are vibrant in colour and one sees all shapes and sizes. The coral is striking and you can spend a fair amount of time snorkeling.

Goggles and snorkels can be rented. Nusa Lemongan gives them for free if you're staying there. The boat takes you to a spot about five minutes away from the beach. You dock at this platform built there and snorkel around the area.

    Snorkeling in Bali...
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the 'must do' items on the island is snorkeling!!! arrggh... colorful tropical fish, corals, beautiful sun and the sea...

All provided by the snorkeling company.

Recommendation: always pack your own snorkeling/diving equipment because those provided there were a bit used and not working properly (googles)

    Biking in Bali
  • Tip Rating:
  • We took a tour with a local biking company in Bali. Basically that was a 2 hour biking, up and down the hill and going through the rice/padi fields. A good way to see the 'real' bali living other than tourists attraction places...
They took us up to the top of a mountain and had breakfast there before starting the journey. The view from top was amazing...

All provided by the biking company.

    Parasailing
  • Tip Rating:
  • While on the beach, a quick activity is parasailing. It is a short ride and usually the entire process right from gearing up, instructions to parasailing and coming back takes about 10 minutes. The actual ride is just about 3-4 minutes. But this gives you a stunning view of the shoreline and the water. In places where the water is very clear, one can easily see the bottom. Of course, the thrill of soaring like a bird for a few minutes takes you on a high

No equipment required to be taken. The guys who take you have everything in order. However, do bargain if you can, as a 3 minute ride can be for less than US$10. It is safe and accidents are rare.
