A lot of people learn to surf while in Bali. There are surfboards for hire all along Kuta Beach as well as instructors. Everything is negotiable. Don't forget to bargain.
Surfing here is great! If your at Kutu Beach then get surfing! Dolla is a great surf instuctor for anyone who wants to give it a shot.
On the northern beach, there are several slim wooden "banana boat" operators who offer a dawn excursion to see dolphins which sometimes swim very close to the boat.
The dive guides at Tauch Terminal Tulamben were very professional and have obviously have great experience diving with photographers.
Bali is ringed with dive sites but talk to a local operator to find out where the best places are to dive at the time. Rental equipment is easily available if you don't have your own.
