    Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

by machomikemd Written Feb 5, 2014

as most tour bus and private van packaged tours on a full day tour with stops at bedugul include a lunch stop at the town of Pacung along the JL Raya Baturiti Road, you can have a spectacular view of the rice terraces of Jatiluwih Village along the the mountain slopes of Mount Batukari while you eat lunch. you can go to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces if you want but if you have a powerful zoom camera like us, then you just press the optical ultra zoom botton and viola, you can take a picture of one of the famed rice terraces of Bali. the other touristy rice terraces are in Tegelalang in the Tampak Siring area. After the Bedugul, tours now go to Alas Kedaton Monkey forest and Tanah Lot Temple Complex for the Sunset. Jatiliwuh, Alas Kedaton and Tanah Lot are part of the Tabanan Regency of Bali.

Finding a Vantage Point to view Tanah Lot

by machomikemd Updated Feb 5, 2014
    4 more images

being the prime tourist destination among the temples of Bali and being located a few meters from the shore and having rocky and slippery beachfront around it, the hordes of tourists try to fit into every nook and cranny and rocks and try to jostle for position for the best view of watching sunset at the Tanah Lot Temple and some even wade along the sea going to the entrance to the temple and get wet just to get a glimpse. but the best way is to hike to the cliffside area, where there are many cliffiside restaurants offering panoramic views of the Tanah Lot temple and the sunset and these restaurants not that that expensive as you only need to order drinks to get a nice position to view the sunset. (i will have separate pictures of the tanah lot sunset at the cliffiside area).

like what i've said, Tanah Lot Temple is not the only temple in the huge Tanah Lot Complex, there are other hindu temples lying near and far from it, all located in the Tanah Lot Complex and one of the first you can find is the Enjung Galong Temple, which is a small temple at the cliffside just across the cliffside facing Tanah Lot. Enjung Galuh Temple was built to pray for the Goddess of prosperity “Dewi Sri” as the power (Shakti) of “Dewa Wisnu” (God Manifestation as The Protector) and you can take pictures outside as only the local Hindu Devotees as allowed entry inside.

Pura Tanah Lot: optical zoom close up view

by machomikemd Written Feb 6, 2014

since tourists are not allowed entrty to the main temple complex as the stone steps going to the main temple complex in the sea front is close, you need your pwerful optical zoom cameras to view part of the inside of the temple and this is my pictures of it.

Pura Tanah Lot is one of the 9 directional temples around bali but is the most famous and most visited temple of all of Bali. the temple was built in the 15th century by a famous Hindu Sage from Java called Dang Hyang Dwi Jendra, also known as Nirartha as he saw the beautiful rocks in this part of bali and instructed the locals to built a temple dedicated to the sea gods.

the temple is a small part of the huge tanah lot complex and there are 6 separate temples around the complex and tons of souvenir shops and restaurants. entrance to the main temple is restricte to local devotees only.

    according to wikipedia:

The Tanah Lot temple was built and has been a part of Balinese mythology for centuries. The temple is one of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. Each of the sea temples were established within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast. However, the temple had significant Hindu influence.

At the base of the rocky island, poisonous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. A giant snake purportedly protects the temple, which was created from Nirartha's scarf when he established the island.

Tanah Lot consist in some shrines built on a rock on the ocean. The best time to visit the temple is at sunset; not so hot, is crowded but the views are great.
