Hiking and Diving

by heidibast

I recommend this for people who love adventures like Hiking and Diving. There are lots of possiblities for both activities. And, I almost forgot, this Tip is about having your activities put on record, either photo or video. It's great fun. You don't have to worry, you don't have to bring your camera gear or video equipment, just bring your hiking shoes or your mask and go hiking or diving and Michael will take the pictures for you. Michael is an outdoor lover with the love for taking pictures video or photo. He knows Bali well, as he has traveled other parts of Indonesia and Asia. He can give you important tips on weather conditions when hiking, on the best season to see sunfish. Michael speaks some languages. He said that you can contact him in English, French and even Japanese. And as he is German he will feel comfortable in his language. When I was in Bali I hiked up Gunung Agung...

Waterbom Park

by cindylovestravel

Waterbom park is in Tuban, it is set in beautiful tropical landscaped gardens and has numerous waterslides, watertubes, a lazy rafting river, euro bungys, swimming pools , pool bar, kids zones, a spa and various retail and food outlets. There are trained life guards on duty everywhere to be seen. There are also lockers that you can hire to store your valuables. We spent the whole day there( a group of 14) and had endles hours of fun in the sun.

Get out and see Bali

by jonbarb709

So much to do, so little time. The hotel was a great place to relax and enjoy the poor and the SPA, but you have to get out and see Bali.Getting up early morning every morning to see the sun rise. A great start to the morning.Breakfast in the dining area overlooking the beach, and now on to travel the area.Sanur was a nice little town to walk around and shop. A Barong Dance performance is a must. The Mask Maker at Batuan is not only something you must go to, but hopefully he puts on a show. It was fantastic. The Puppet Master, another must, not only to see and maybe even buy a puppet, but again, hopefully he puts on a show for you.UBUD is a town you do not want to miss. Lotus Restaurant, the Temple, and the Market Place, all within walking distance of each other. UBUD also was a great place to just walk around and visit the shops. The Monkey Forest, was unbelievable, monkey's walking...

TANAH LOT

by RoyJava

Maybe this is the most popular temple of Bali: Tanah Lot.I am very lucky to have visited this Sea Temple in the time legends still were taken seriously. That is that the Javanese Hindu priest Dang Hyang Nirartha arrived at Bali near the Pura Rambut Siwi and, following the sound of the waves he got to an tiny island of corals and stayed there overnight. The local fishermen payed respect to him and listened to his wise lessons. It happened during the Balinese Icaka calender in 1411 (in our time 1489). He wrote his thoughts on lontar palm leaves, which got prepared by the Balinese. The fishermen built a temple to remember this meeting with the holy priest. The place got specially protected by sea-snakes, still living around the little rocky islet in the caves. At first the temple got well-known as Pura Pakendungan, later changed into Tanah Lot. When low tide you can walk over to the temple...

Sunset at Pura Uluwatu

by zafilm

It's a place where you could just watch the sun goes by.This 11th century temple is perched on a cliff edge, hundreds of feet above the sea. The views are spectacular from several vantage points. The local monkey population watch over the temple and be warned, this monkey can be cheeky. Watch your belonging!.Im pretty much enjoy the beautifull sunset and the scenery. Find a good spot where you could sit and wait for the sun drop by. I was there 5pm,to tour the temple aswell and get a right place while waiting for a show(Kecak Dance). The view was breathtaking. I recommend this place ,whoever a sunset lover.....

Kecak and Fire Dances

by zafilm

The kecak & fire dance is the most unique Balinese dance which is not accompained by and instrument or orchestra but,by a choir of 30-40 mens.As all the mens foam a circle around the stage and start singing only "Cak....Cak...Cak",where they accordance and name it "Kecak Dance". Its a ritual dance and they called it 'Sanghyang or trance dance as a person in a state of trance comminicates with the dieties or ancestors. The dances represent one stage of ramayana epic where onces the demon king"Rahwana" tries to kidnap princess Sita from her husband, prince Rama.Along the story, they have a few character involve which they perform unique balinese dance and costume.End of the story, princess Sita is saved by Hanoman(The White Monkey).Be there early to get front seat where you could view the beautifull sunset above the cliff aswell for the show.

Barong & Kris Dance

by zafilm

This show represents an eternal fight between good and evil spirit. Barong ( a mythological animal) represents a good spirit and Rangda( a mythological monster) represents an evil one.The show accompanied with musical orchestra (gambelan). The show takes around 1hrs and i find it very interesting. Towards ends of the show, 4 fine young guys will appear with kris and start to dance and stabbing themself in their chest several times.......

Ida Bagus Tilem Woodcarving Museum

by CheekyDee

Going to the village of Ubud is an amazing experience in itself. But more so when you visit the Ida Bagus Tilem Museum! He's a legend on the island, passed away a number of years ago. Was a wonderful artist and his son has now taken over the craft. He breathed life into pieces of wood unlike I've ever seen. But he's also kept much of his subject matter true to the the essence of Balinese life and culture. You won't find many pictures online, but it really truly is a special place to visit. I've attached a website giving an overview on Tilem, he truly was a wonderful artist.

Cooking Class in Ubud

by TravelSimone

If you enjoy cooking take a class with Janet De Neefe of Casa Luna and the Honeymoon Guesthouse in Ubud. They offer courses almost everyday, although she only teaches a few of them. You learn all about the local spices (and their counterparts in the west) and methods of cooking. The end result is a huge, delicious feast. Classes do fill up so it is best to email and reserve a spot.
