temples.

by francolin

everywhere you go in bali there are temples..some of the more well off locals have their own private temple in their grounds..we visited a few. one that I really enjoyed was the water temple..it is set in a beautiful area..well worth a visit..there are several large pools and in one of them the locals jump in and bathe..a few even took in soap and shampoo !! which, I was told, was not allowed. you are required to wear a sarong and sash (which you can hire in the grounds) and females are not allowed into some area,s if they are on their monthly cycles.

Don't Miss Mt. AGUNG

by ViajesdelMundo

2-3 wks will be plenty of time to see Bali, being that it is such a tiny island; but for sure, don't miss the trip to Besakih, the 'Mother Temple'!! especially if you are interested in the true culture and history because this is it.it's been 35 yrs since I was there, but even then, western 'hippie' types had spoiled the local people, particularly around the beaches; and they ape 'going native'.....I've been told it's even worse, so be prepared, but inland I'm sure that you will still experience true loca hospitality and culture.

Sunset at Pura Uluwatu

by estranged911

Sunset at Pura Uluwatu.Probably the best sight you'll ever get to see in Bali. If you have rented a motorbike, its advisable to go by it because traffic is jammed in most part of the city. By taxi it takes about 2 hours to reach Uluwatu and by bike, you can get there in less than an hour. Be there before six pm in any case. The sunset is beautiful. You don't wanna miss any part of it.Take a rain coat with you because rains are very unpredictable in Bali. Don't let the rain slow you down. The temple is full of monkeys. Take care of your belongings as they are menacing.

Kuta

by leanne_pearc

Kuta is where you will find all the 'bintang shops' that seem to go on forever and filled with pretty much the same stock. The shop vendors will entice you to look at there shop offering a special deal for you - of course. The main street of Kuta is marked with the Bali bombing memorial and has a few Australian surf and skate stores, pubs, bars and resturants. The surf stores are really nice with good clothes (authentic brands). The traffic is hetic in this part of town and makes the streets scorching hot so after wandering around for a bit we eventually decided to stop for a drink and meal. We found a place that was full of people, it looked like a coffee snack place (wish i remembered the name) and i ordered a burger and cocktail (yes cocktails are plentiful in Bali...whatever time of the day it is).

Temple Madness

by malbella

Land of the Gods, that was what Bali has been called. Indeed there lies many temples all over Bali. Ancient and fascinating view and locations. I visited Pura Uluwatu (u can't actually enter the temple unless u wanna pray, other then that, most tourist enjoyed the beautiful view of the Indian Ocean. Next is Pura Tanah Lot. The temple that resides on a small island on the sea. And it was been told that a holy snake guards the temple and only return to it's hole when dawn breaks. Pura Kaseh is one of many bali's ancient temples ard. Here you are able to roam ard and admire some many decades of the temple's architecture.

Eye Therapy

by malbella

Were you wondering that i really meant that its really ''eye therapy''? hehehe....caught u there. What i meant is, when viewing nice views, its always a therapy to the eyes too isn't it? These exclusive journey we had was a relaxing one, we headed up to view the mountains and beautiful cascading rice paddies. I doubt many knew of these least use route passing by many, many beautiful rice paddies till u find urself the view of mount batur and its lake crater. I also included a view of mt batur & rice paddies at Tegalalang. Enjoy!

Tanah Lot

by euli

Lots of souviner shops before the beach where you can soak up the sights. Supposedly, the sunset view at tanah lot was infamous, but it rained out on our visit. It was still quite pretty despite the rain. The sillouette of the temple buildings on a cliff and the naturally dark volcanic sand was worth the visit. Very touristy though. Some locals were surfing, but the waves weren't that fantastic.

Padi (Rice) Fields

by euli

Jati Luwih wins hands down vs Tegal Lalang. If you want to get great photos go earlier in the day, coz it seemed to rain every afternoon while we were there around 2 - 4pm. A good time to get great photos of the padi fields is around 1030am. To get to Jati Luwih, it takes about 1 hour by car from Kerobokan (about 1hour 30mins from Kuta) if you know your way (with a local driver). If you do a self-drive, it might take you a little longer.

Butterfly Park - Bali

by euli

It is a bigger park compared to the one in Penang but definitely very few butterflies compared to the one in Penang or at the Singapore Zoo.It is also a bit pricey (US$6 per adult and US$3 per child) for what was available to see inside.
