Scuba Diving

by iamsqueals

Bali has amazing scuba-diving and we were lucky enough to have been recommended Joe's Gone Diving, who made our dive trip absolutely fantastic.Run my Mirjam and Jan and based in Sanur, these guys know all the cool hidden gems around the island and when to go... they are not only brilliant dive masters and teachers (professional, reassuring, patient) but also a lot of fun to hang out with. If you're going to Bali I can't recommend going diving enough, and I also can't recommend these guys enough... we'll definitely be back, and if only to dip under the waves with Joe's Gone Diving!

Lazing at the Beach

by efoo

What else but enjoying the beach. We went beach hopping and realize that Dreamland beach is still the best to laze around. Padang Padang and Uluwatu are more suitable for surfers. Semniyak is the other alternative besides Kuta.Went back in Dec 2010. Worst day to go after a heavy downpour. All the rubbish were swept to the beach. According to locals, they'll clear the day after. So it's better to visit on sunny days.

hidden beach near Uluwatu

by putri_jogja

for me, I choose Bali.Last week I went to Bali with my sister. We found hidden beach near Uluwatu. Few people know it. That time, we had no idea after uluwatu trip. Then we followed some surfers. We ended at tht beautiful beach. The name is Suluban Beach. Prepare your swimsuit. It is great beach for swimming. IMHO, this beach is recomended to visit. for cultural trip, beside visiting Ubud, you can visit Begudul, Tirta Empul, Goa Gajah, or Barong dance.

The Barong and Kris Dance

by fachd

Now if you want to see some of Balinese culture go and see The Barong and Kris Dance, believe me you won’t regret it. The general story of the play is between the good and evil. Neither triumph because Balinese people think that the Good and the Evil coexists in our world. The play begins with an introduction presenting the Dance of Legong whom representing the servants of Rangda. Barong a mythological animal represents a good spirit and Rangda a mythological monster represents an evil spirit. They will give you a program and it will tell you briefly of the different act. There are five acts and the play is about an hour long. At the end of the play you can take photos with the actors and they will ask you for tips (10,000 IDR to 20,000 IDR) is okay, you can give more if you are feeling generous. Entrance fee: 80,000 IDR per person

Bali Hai Dinner Cruise

by fachd

We went to Bali Hai Dinner Cruise, yeah it was fun. You get to see sunset, Indonesian buffet dinner, Indonesian singer who does request, classical Indonesian dance, transvestite who mime the songs and dance, cabaret show, disco the night away. Party party atmosphere and fun fun fun. I think one experience is enough.

Kopi Luwak

by fachd

At a small coffee plantation in Gianjar Bali I had a taste of Kopi Luwak in a small cup, it cost me 50,000 IDR roughly about $7 AUD. It has strong aroma, it was smooth, and it didn’t have the usual strong coffee taste. It’s different but I am not sure if I like it, I think it’s a matter of getting use to it. Anyway I can say I have tried Kopi Luwak. (See photos). In the plantation you can also taste/drink and buy varieties of Bali chocolates, fragrant/massage oil, natural spices and others.Kopi Luwak is from the beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet cat (Musang). The berries pass through the digestive system and the civet cat waste is collected, washed, sun dried, roasted, pounded and brewed. When the berries still in the civet cat stomach it produced proteolytic enzymes which soaked to the beans and less amino acids. Sumatra, Java, Bali, Philippines and...

Lake Bratan for water sport activities

by fachd

There are plenty of water sport activities at Lake Bratan (danau Bratan), you can do Para sailing, water-skiing, banana-boat rides, canoeing or rent a motorboat. Across the lake you can visit WWII Japanese caves or visit the temple of Pura Ulun Danu. The lake is 1200 meters above sea level which makes the temperature nice and cool. About two hours drive from Kuta.

Pura Ulun Danu Temple

by fachd

We visited Pura Ulun Danu Temple and glad we did. The sight is definitely for photographer and video enthusiast. The first thing I noticed was the calm of Lake Bratan surrounded with misty mountain on the background. The main attraction of the temple ‘Ulun Danu’ prominently stood alone as if telling you this is the beginning and the head of the lake. ‘Ulun Danu’ symbolizes nature that surrounds her and dedicates to the goddess of lakes and rivers ‘Ida Batara Dewi Ulun Danu’. Pura Ulun Danu Temple is a 50km drive north of Denpasar. The temple was built in the 17th century. It consists of complexes with courtyards and many shrines. Meru being the dominant shrine has eleven tiers. The temple can give the illusion of actually floating on the water. It is the second most important temple in Bali, and it’s very favorite direction for tourist. Most hotel in Bali can arrange the trip or hiring a...

Taman Ayun (Ahyun) Temple

by fachd

Taman Ayun (Ahyun) Temple is a Royal Family Temple of Mengwi Dynasty and was built in 1634. It is located in Mengwi Village and about 18 Km northwest of Denpasar. As the Royal Family temple of the Raja of Mengwi, this temple is a place to worship the Royal ancestors. Inside there are multistoried pagoda shrines which some of them with eleven roofs called meru meru, godly statues and Balinese pergola. The temple is encircled with large ponds which give effect from afar that the temple is floating on water. The beautiful manicured garden and water fountain with the cool air breeze provides feelings of serenity. It has three connecting temple yards. The Utama Mandala the highest circle, the Madia Mandala the circle in between and the humblest circle is the Nista Mandala. I thought the visit to Taman Ayun was well worth it, take your time and enjoyed the ambience and beauty, we did.
