Ngurah Rai statue outside the airport by Wild_Orchid Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport, you will have to buy a coupon to get a taksi to take you to your destination. The best and most detailed tips can be found on Balisunshine's pages. Taksi prices (usually you would negotiate a price before jumping in) : Kuta or Legian to Jimbaran Bay (near Hotel Intercontinental) ~20,000-25,000 rupiahs One scrupulously honest taxi driver actually told us that it would be cheaper to use the meter & it turned out that he was right! The metered price was 19,000, and we were so pleased, we gave him 20,000 and didn't wait for the change. Footnote: The private operators hanging around public beaches who are not real taxi drivers would usually charge you 50% more. Some taxi drivers do not turn on the air-conditioning, unless you ask them to. The Blue Bird and white Galleria taksis were slightly newer and had metered installed (but not always used!) our friendly driver by Wild_Orchid In Bali, it is really NOT advisable to self-drive. The drivers here enjoy stopping suddenly, there are many motorbikes, and there are U turns and intersections that pop up unexpectedly. Road conditions are quite poor in some areas. There are police road blocks at many places...(do need I say more?)~ on the road to Kintamani, we encountered 2 police road blocks, 2 km apart~ If you need to get around and don't wish to join a tour, why not hire a car with a driver? A Toyota Kijang (can take up to 6 passengers) ~ hired at our resort with the Asst Mgr who doubled up as the driver/guide cost us 265,000 rupiahs for 6 hours (petrol was included in the price) OR 330,000 rupiahs for 8 hours. Additional hour 40,000 rupiahs A Toyota Kijang hired at Kuta Square cost us 350,000 rupiahs for 10 -12 hours ("until you get tired lah") (petrol was included in the price). His was an older vehicle and the air-conditioning didn't work that well but was okay generally. Our driver (pictured here with my son) is a loquacious affable guy called I. Nyoman Arya Subrata. He can speak some English. At the end of it, we gave him another 50,000 rupiahs as a tip. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: 085-6371 4224 (his handphone)

Luckily, this was NOT our driver... :o) by FletteMette In the tourist areas of Bali you'll hear "transport, miss, you need transport?!" everywhere you go - men sitting along the road shout and wave at you, clap their hands to get your attention, and drive imaginary steering wheels - if you tell them you don't need transport, they'll respond with "How about tomorrow?! Or next week?!" :o) They are not official taxi drivers, but will for a highly negotiable price take you a few hundred meters down the road - or for a 12-hour tour of the island. Price depends on your bargaining skills - but for a short drive, metered taxis are normally quite a bit cheaper. (And with a metered taxi you don't have to take the hassle of negotiating a more or less reasonable fare first) When agreeing on a price, always make sure it includes petrol - otherwise your driver might ask for (a lot) more money when you arrive at your destination. When going on a longer trip, I'd want to see the car first, and ask if the car has good air con. Some sample fares: We paid 200 000 Rp (plus tip - but tipping is very optional in Bali) Sanur - Amed (with some stops along the way). Ubud - Jimbaran: we paid 80 000 Rp. I don't like bargaining very hard over a few dollars, and I'm sure we could have got the rides cheaper had we tried. We had several drivers during our 3-week stay - some very nice & friendly and others...well, not so nice! One got very upset when we didn't want him to take us to several shops along the way (he did of course want commission) - he kept asking us for more money, and refused turning on the air con. My favourite driver was Made (pronounced mah - dee) - he is based in Sanur, speaks reasonably good English and drives very sanely and carefully. (Because, he said, he has a wife and two kids:o) You'll find his phone number below. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: 081 64700376

Now Everyone Can Fly! by Wild_Orchid If you are in Bangkok, Indonesia, Singapore or Malaysia, do visit Air Asia's Webpage to see how cheap & easy it is to fly to destinations around Asia. The KLIA-Denpasar (Bali) sector starts from 99.90 one-way, excluding taxes and airport charges. We paid approximately RM450.00 for a return flight, inclusive of taxes (but excluding the Indonesian Departure Tax Charge). We booked in late July 2004 to fly in November 2004 (at the start of the school holiday period). A friend who was on the same flight in Nov had paid close to RM650 for the return flight ~ he had booked it in October 2004. His enquiry with MAS told him the air-fare during this peak period was around RM900, return. Information current as at November 2004 Leave a Comment

Your Bali Friend by Homanded A good, dependable Guide is your most important asset when visiting Bali. The distances are great (Due to road conditions in places) as well as accessability routes. Although they may not seem far on a map, locations may take from 30 mins to over an hour to reach. Having a guide that can organize your trip itinerary into "segments" allows you to make the most of your trip and time on Bali. (An example was our ability to photograph Mount Batur, attend a Cremation ceremony AND do the Arts festival and shopping) all in one day. Our guide's insight into the local culture, his attention to detail which included providing sarongs for us to wear to religious ceremonies and temples, and, his knowledge of local restaurants and tourist traps to avoid, made for a smooth experience. Also, your guide must have good command of your language, along with winning personality and charm. "Putu" is a true proffessional in all respects. He even looks the part! Barong by kyoub The drivers most always speak English and they know Bali. If we had not had a driver we would not of seen all the interesting places that we saw. They also can guide you to the best places to shop and warn you of ripoffs. We have a favorite driver named Ketut but there are a lot of good ones. Travelling around Bali for sightseing is easy. You can hire a local driver (comes with car, petrol, parking all inclusive) for RP300000 per day. He will take you anywhere you want, wait for you, and even explain things about Bali to you. My driver Kadek drives a 6 seater Toyota Kijang with good sound system and air conditioning. Just plan your trip, find out where you want to go, and tell these to your driver. He will then plan out a good travel plan to bring you to see all these laces. No hassle, totally free and easy. You can contact Kadek at IDD +62817552841 (can send him SMS) Locally (Ph) 0817552841 Or Email - santrika79@yahoo.com Tell him is Nick's recommendation. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home
