    Panorama Tours

by cadzand Updated Oct 24, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For our travelling around Bali, we could count of the professionnal help of Panorama Tours and Grayline, who vehicled us around the island. As there were not many tourists at the time we were there, we travelled around in a minivan together with a french or english speaking guide.

Panorama Tours Jl.Bypass Ngurah Rai, Suwung, Denpasar 80228.

No ! you don't see us on this picture :-))
Just wanted to show you how the locals are travelling to the ceremonies.

Private travelling : Barong and Kintamani

by cadzand Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you don't like crowded tourist busses as you can find them all over the world, stopping at different souvenir shops, make a private tour with driver and guide in french, dutch or english in a mini-van or 4 x 4.
You can count on the good and friendly services of Steven, a very kind (belgian) person living in Bali since several years.

Planning a day trip or just shopping?

by Poquita Written Jun 9, 2008

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you have planned a day trip eg. Kintamani, Ubud markets, temples at Ubud and Kintamani, Gold and Silver shops etc, it is best to arrange a driver for the day. They will probably ask for 400'000rp or so. You want to get out of it for about 250'000rp. Remember they have to put alot more fuel in for a big trip, rather than hanging out all day until you're ready to go to the next shop in Kuta. and if they look after you, you can always book them for another day trip without having to haggle too extensively and at the end of it all it is nice to tip them and share lunch with them.
**If you are just going to be poking around in the small shops and maybe buying a few things then I would use a gold or blue taxi when needed if travelling from the other side of the island (nusa dua or sanur) to kuta/legian area, once there you can walk most places, but if shopping gets too heavy then you might need a driver to store all your goodies in his boot/trunk whilst you continue to SHOP!!!*

To Drive or Not to Drive????

by balisunshine Updated Nov 28, 2005

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Driving a car on your own in Bali,
    can be a real experience.

    Chickens, dogs, people, bicycles, etc.
    and who knows what else
all share the narrow streets of Bali.

    Driving regulations?
    What is that?

If for some reason you are in an accident,
    you are automatically at fault.

    Why?
Because if you were not here,
    this would have never happened.

    Simple as that!

So with the inexpensive prices it is to hire
    a driver with car...
maybe this would be the better option.

    If you dare....
    make sure to have your
    International driver?s Permit,
    or plenty of cash.

Which way is the right way?

    Try the Bemo

by cadzand Updated Nov 11, 2003

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you like the contact with the locals, try the bemo, a small mini-van, making regular stops on short distances
There are official bemo/bus fare in Bali which you can find almost everywhere.. There are two different fares, Microlet(bemo) and Mobile(medium size bus). The bemo fares are 50% more than bus prices. Long distance bus fares are also listed on the different sheet at Ubung bus terminal. It is hard to get these fares, specially the routes which many tourists use. Singaraja - Kintamani route is the hardest. You may ask the help to officials at the bus terminals but often they are for bus staff side. If you KNOW the proper fare, you may negotiate after you get on. However, this is the absolutely last option.

Get an idea of the fares at this link

    Hire a guide/driver

by Fernandocramos Updated Apr 4, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The first thing you have to do while in Bali is hire a guide/driver. Bali is a small island and you can cover it all if you choose two points (cities) as a start point, so you can go and come back at the same day and visit all the island. I suggest you to stay in Kuta and Ubud.
The streets are very straits so its dificult to drive and there are many motorbykes that can make the traficc terrible and dangerous.
We hired Dean as our guide/driver. He is a very friendly guy, great sense of humor, good english and he will be always wainting for you with a big smile on his face.
He has a good and new car with aircon and everything that you want he can provide to you.
Now he has a better car than this one in the photo.
He is a great person, very honest and he made our trip a dream.

you can contact him at :

We found the best way to get around Bali was to hire a mini bus or car with a driver. They will take you wherever you want to go, wait for you and quite often give you some local information. It was fairly cheap too-we hired a mini bus for 6 people for the day and it cost about 30GBP.
Around the Nus Dua area there is a shuttle bus which picks up at each hotel and goes to the Galleria.

    'Transport! Transport!'

by paradisedreamer Written Aug 9, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Getting around Bali is extremely easy. If you arrive at the airport there are 'metered' taxis, negotiate the price first.
Once you are at your hotel you can't set foot outside without someone shouting 'Transport! Transport!' while steering an imaginary steering wheel.

Bemos (minibuses) are the main form of transport for local people and your cheapest option.

To go further afield eg Lombok you can book the bus and ferry through Perama who are located on Jalan Monket Forest, Ubud.

    Hire a driver

by Quero Updated May 2, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Getting around Bali takes practice, and who wants to waste valuable leisure time getting lost or stuck in a muddy rut in order to get that practice? The best bet is to hire a driver and van to take you around. The rates are very reasonable, and the vans seat about six people comfortably.

Our driver was hired by the owner of the villa we rented. Besides knowing where to go in Bali and how to get there, his driving style was safe enough not to leave us shaken up once we reached whatever destination we had chosen for the day. Last, and definitely not least, he spoke English passably well.

    His particulars: Nengah Suwirka
    Home phone: 0361-739-814
    Mobile phone: 081-2392-6929

He stands by the Hotel Vila Bumbung, phone 0361-730-204
