Travel Made Easier

by pienkcat

Getting around Bali? Headache of thinking how to visit rural area? Worries not, just hire a licensed tourist driver and tailor made your visiting places.Normally, the driver come with their vehicle (MPV, van or etc) inclusive petrol, parking fee and sometimes do provide entrance fees, drinking water, umbrella and etc.Like my recent visit, my driver Made Wijaya and his brother Ketut Darma were very nice, friendly and helpful people. Before my departure, I've studied all the places that I've wanted to visit, a little bit about geography or location of those places and of course negotiated the price :-). All this done via e-mail only. The reason why I did that was I wanted to save my time so that I could spend more time, rest & relax at my lovely villa eventhough all drivers have their own travel package.... and guess what? I succeeded and I am very proud of myself as I did not miss any...

Private Guide & Driver

by waranan

I visited Bali with my friend for my study about sacred places in Bali. Our trip would not be happen without help and guidance from Tut Nick, local Balinese guide. I knew him from www.virtualtourist.com and www.tripadvisor.com, and contact him directly for destination and price. Our flight delayed for 3 hrs but he still waiting , quickly took us to hotel after a long and exhausting flight before took us anywhere we wanted to go. Nick gave me a lot of insider guidance, useful information of local belief form new Balinese genaration-- like him. After visited many temples and joined a long procession of offerings, my friend suddenly changed our plan. He help us very much to plan new destination.

Jet Star / Valuair

by Carino

Jet Star (operated by Valuair) has affordable rates from Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore to Denpasar, Bali. Rates from Singapore start at roughly 300 SGD (return flight, incl. Taxes) and if you are lucky you might catch even a special price which could bring you to Bali for just about 200 SGD. I was lucky to catch a flight leaving Singapore at 7.05pm, arriving at 9.35pm and return flight was at 10.15pm, arriving in Singapore at 00.45am. With these great flight times, I could really make use of my long weekend! But as usual, book early to catch the best rates.

Blue Bird Taxis and other...

by LauraJames31

When you are in Bali feel sooooo grateful at the ample cabs that beep you constantly from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.... you will only ever wait approximately .5 of a second before being picked up... cabs have awesome aircon (absolute blessing) and dirt cheap. You can travel around for ages before it even goes past 1 australian dollar. You never have to search for one and its so convenient. Of course you want to look around and be on the ground walking... however remember on your way home it is nice to drive in luxury. Trust me when your feet cane and you are exhausted from every person you meet asking you where you come from, where you stay, where your mum and dad are, where your boyfriend is and whether you want roxy top or billabong top - you will be happy to see good old blue bird :) Not being negative but it is a little exhausting expecially as you want to be...

Transportation choice 4 - Rent a Bike

by kenningst

Around BaliRenting a bike to go around the main beach area and Jl Legian seems like a good idea if you are too lazy to walk or you need to carry your surf board with you. They have specially custom modified motorcycle to carry your surf board as well. I paid Rp50,000 for a full day but I was told that it could go as low as Rp30,000 per day if you take more than 1 day.Always wear your helmet especially when you want to ride out from the main beach area. I've spoken to some locals and they said that you will need to bribe off the police if you are caught riding without a helmet. Also, its easy to ride your motorbike to the other major towns like Uluwatu or Tanah Lot as there are road signs everywhere but it gets really difficult to ride to the smaller areas which requires you to go through smaller villages where road signs are not available. Consult some locals and you should be able to...

Transportation choice 3 - Bemo

by kenningst

Bemo is the public transport in Bali. Its looks like a mini van and stops whenever you need to.From Ngurah Rai AirportThe cheapest way to go from the airport to Kuta Beach is by Bemo. Upon exiting the immigration and the the customs check you will exit at the main exit entrance. From here, take a right turn and keep going straight until you pass Starbucks Coffee on your right. Move further and you will see cars exiting the area passing some sort of an arch on your left. After you pass this "arch", you will see a tiny roundabout. Go straight and wait for a Bemo along the road. Ask the bemo driver when you get on if they are heading to Kuta Beach. I was dropped off at the junction of Jl Legian and Jl Pantai Kuta for a fee of Rp3,000.Different Bemo runs of different route in Bali which means that if you take a bemo along Jl Legian it does not necessary head back to the airport. I was only...

Transportation choice 2 - Ojek (motorcycle taxis)

by kenningst

From Ngurah Rai Airport Not sure if ojeks operate from the airport to other parts of the island but you can ask around.Around BaliOjek seems to the best mode of transport around Kuta beach and Jl Legian due to the horrific traffic jam. Always bargain like crazy as they will want to snatch away your hard earned money from you. Prices depends on how far the distance. I took a ride from one end of Jl Legian to the other end for Rp 10,000 (still too expensive as I was told that it should cost only about Rp 5,000)

Transportation choice 1 - Taxi

by kenningst

From Ngurah Rai AirportYou can choose to take the taxi to take to Kuta Beach for around Rp 35,000. Taxi is also widely available around Bali and the infamous Blue Bird Group also operates there (please check my Jakarta page for more information)Around BaliAlways insist on using the meter and only bargain for non meter using taxi if you really know the price. Traffic is really bad along Kuta Beach and also Jl Legian and you are much better off hailing an ojek, taking your own motorcycle or walk.

Airport Departure Tax

by kenningst

By now you would have known that you have to pay a departure tax upon taking off from Ngurah Rai Airport. As off September 2007, the price of the departure tax has risen to Rp150,000. Make sure you bring enough rupiah's to the airport.

Transport around Bali

by stedeb

Yes take a trip to Kintamani from Ubud otherwise you have to come all the way back from Kuta. You can always visit Tanah Lot on your way back from Ubud. Hire a driver we were in Bali last month and hired a driver & car for $US30 for 8 hours, unfortunately the car was an old bomb no air con and could barely make it up the hills. We booked this for our overseas visitors on their first visit to Bali thinking we were doing the right thing, it was out of a brochure from the airport not the cheapest nothing special about the brochure. We normally having been to Bali 13 times negotiate with a driver off the street we will now continue to do so. Our overseas guests cut their day trip short and complained to the company to no avail. Negotiate with a driver and make sure the car you see is the car you get we have never had any problems with drivers off the street.
