Flying Air Asia

by balisunshine

An Asian budget airline is Air Asia.On certain routes, they have some amazing prices.Such as, from KL to Laos. The earlier you book, the better chance you have to get a cheaper rate. This is a no frills airline,so don’t expect any blankets,or good food,if good food exists on any airline. If you’re a particular healthy eater, forget bringing your own food on board. It is simply not allowed. So make sure the tummy is full before hand,or wait it out till you arrive to your destination.Rates are also cheaper by booking on line, rather than going directly to their office. They do warn at check in,not to place any valuable inside of your suitcase, which is why I have repeatedly advised,no matter what, put a lock on your bag.Lost baggage does and has occurred on some of their flights. And I have heard through others of several complaints, but that comes with the budget pricealong with the high traffic of...

Airport Taxi

by pharsadi

Getting taxi from the Ngurah Rai airport is easy. They actually have an official taxi booth/office where you can just go there, tell them where you want to go, pay at the cashier, and a taxi will come and pick you up. This is very convenient if you want to go from the airport to your hotel, and no one is there to pick you up.

Choosing Your Own Transport Part 3

More Things to Look For7/ OthersIf you are hiring motorcycle, the dealer should provide you with crash helmet(s) for all in your party I.E 2 per motorbike hired, check the condition of the helmet for cracks/dints etc. It's compulsory to wear crash helmet on motorbikes now in Bali, up to you whether or not you do, but you will be stopped if you don'tThe wearing of seat belts in the front of cars is compulsory now, although, it's difficult for them to stop you for not wearing them. Many cars don't have seat belts fitted all round, so if you are taking children in the car with you, make sure there are seat belts (sounds obvious, but so many people take it for granted that seat belts are fitted as standard, they forget to check. The dealer should also give you the vehicle's "SDN" card, (like the road tax/license)(both for motor bike and car) check the dates are current, especially the renewal...

Touring around

by BesarRahasia

There are thousands of people all over Bali, who will offer you a tour around, it's different to a car with driver, in that a tour first of all is a fixed itinerary which should include a qualified tour guide, (preferably one who can speak your language very well, various destinations and sights, possibly lunch, and entrance fee's all included in the price.Unfortunately many of the people who offer tours are little more than car with driver, there are only about 2,000 registered tour guides in operation at the moment, and most of them all work for or are freelance contracted to the genuine tour operators. So it is unlikely that the person off the street or who was recommended by the waiter or other means will actually be a qualified guide. There are some who work for themselves and have a car but they are very few indeed. Now that isn't to say that your day or your tour won't be a good...

Public Transport or What!

by BesarRahasia

There are public buses in Bali, the smaller local ones, normally blue or yellowy orange They can get very full with people hanging out of the doorway. Smokimg is allowed on the buses, and people do. There aren't many special stops as such, you just wave at one if it happens to be going in the general direction you want, don't rely on the destination sign if there is one, ask the driver if he is going to the place you want, and hope that he is honest enough to give you the right answer. You just shout when you want to get off, pay your money (by the way they don't give change so make sure you have plenty of small money with you). There are 4 terminals in Kuta where you can catch one of these buses, 1/ Bemo corner at the bottom of Legian Street (turn left at the monument and there they are) 2/ Jl Dewi Sartika, opposite The Harris hotel in Tuban, close to the airport, 3/Jl Raya Kuta, close...

Choosing Your Own Transport Part 2

More things to look for4/ Condition of VehicleCheck the condition of the vehicle, make sure the brakes work effectively, check the condition of the tyres (no rules over here about tread depth), check that everything works that should work (Air con in particular for cars).5/ FuelCheck the type of fuel and level of the fuel in the vehicle, some provide with full tank, and expect it to be returned full, others the fuel can be nearly empty, so you would have to put petrol in pretty quick, so it is a good idea to find out where the nearest petrol station is.Nornal 4* petrol is called "Premium" and Diesel is called "Solar"6/ Hire PeriodCheck your contract (if you get one) for the period of hire, make sure that the dates are correct especially for the return date and time, and check the charges and conditions for late return. Some work on a very strange system, 12 hours being 1 day and the 12...

Rules of the Road..What Rules Part 3

by BesarRahasia

Thats about it, after that it's generally a free for all, be cautious, watch out for motorbikes ,they will pass on both sides, cut in front of you, drive on pavements, and the wrong way down a one way street.Having said all of that, it is a great way to get around and see things.I am sure that you will soon get used to it, and will get to enjoy it. To be honest it's not as bad as it reads. Try to get into the rural areas where the driving is less congested and less chaotic. My advice is to hire a car with driver for a day, or just get a taxi to take you around for an hour or so to see what it's like then if you still feel ok about it, go for the self drive option, you will enjoy the freedom.

Rules Of The Road...What Rules!!! Part 2

More Tips in General4/Sounding off!!Don't get too upset with the constant and apparently unessesary sounding of the horn, or if they seem to do something wrong. The horn is used all the time, and so should you, to warn others you are there, you are passing, etc5/ProcessionsIt is likely that you will meet with a ceremony procession during your trips, if you are caught behind one, you should wait behind at a reasonable distance until given the signal by the guards to proceed past. This is about the only time they don't sound their horns because something is in the way.6/Flashing The flashing of headlights is a signal that the other driver DOESNT intend to stop, and that he/or she expects you to stop or get out of the way, even if it seems illogical to your way of thinking.7/U Turns and Pulling Out There are places clearly marked where you can do a U turn, expect to be driving along and...

To Drive or to Be Driven thats the question part 4

by BesarRahasia

More things to look forCondition of vehicle Another obvious one, but check the vehicle before you pay any money, look for good condition both inside and outside, don't worry too much about too many scratches or dints (as long as they are not too serious) check that the air- conditioning works, even if you don't use it all the time, sometimes just window open is ok, but you might want to use it. Check that there are seat belts fitted in the back especially if you are taking children, if it doesn't worry you that there aren't then thats fine its your choice.Itinerary Check with the driver (especially if it' a different person to whom you made the booking,) that he/she either knows what you want to do, that he has an itinerary (if you gave one). And that your itinerary can be done in the time you have contracted for. Over hours charges can be very costly. Ask the driver to keep you informed...
