Take the Balinese cooking class offered by Cafe Wayan. The cooking class is conducted in the beautiful gardens of their sister restaurant Laka Lele in Nyuhkuning village behind the Monkey Forest. You meet at Cafe Wayan and are taken by van over to Laka Lele in Nyuhkuning. There are seven different menus to choose from and you can either attend the morning or the afternoon session. The cost is 350,000 Rp. for the two hour class. The day that I went Ana was the chef and I had a wonderful time. His English is excellent and he spent a great deal of time explaining everything that we were doing. I got to peel, shred, cut as well as cook and of course eat a wonderful five course Balinese meal. Ana is a wealth of information on Balinese cooking and enjoys his work throughly. He is also good at giving shortcuts and tips on how to cook Balinese food.

The picture...one of the normal view of Pasar Ubud...busy...especially lunch hour towards the evening. Best time to shop here is early in the morning. If you're driving cars...quite difficult to find parking spots here...better to take a cab, hotel shuttle or ride motorcycle. They got 'parking attendance' here managing the parking...if you can't park/take out your car/motorbike...they'll assist you...with a reasonable fee.

There're a few Dolce and Gabbana's boutique around Ubud. Inside you'll find not just D&G...but other brands as well. During my visit...all of these boutiques were having sales up to 70%...or is it all year round sales...will have to check on that...n I'm not really sure on the originality as well.

Majority of people here are Balinese Hindu's. You can find many temples here as well as shrines at shops and houses. Temples are known as pura in the Balinese language.
According to them, Balinese villages have three major temples. Pura Puseh (temples of origin) usually located towards the upstream of villages dedicated to remembering the founder of the village, Pura Desa (village temples) located in the middle of a village where the community meet to pray and the third is Pura Dalem (temples of the dead) located downstream of villages and this is where the graveyards are.
It's a nice experience seeing temples with unique and remarkable architecture. I think they have rules over women having menses not allowed to enter the temples...so it's best to check first before entering.

It's a nice place to walk...very green...the old temples and other old looking structures here made the place look ancient and mysterious.
The monkeys...they're cute. I think they're well taken care of...they seemed happy.

It's a forest...not very sure how big it is. There're more than 300 long tails monkeys here. Some of them were quite friendly...they would climb on you, while others could be looking for fleas, making noises screaming for food n running around playing with their monkey friends.
Here you'll find a temple, cremation temple and bathing temple. This forest sanctuary is said to be sacred as it represents an ancient Balinese Hindu settlement.
You have to pay the entrance fee located at the main entrance. This place is hard to miss...just before reaching the main town of Ubud...you'll see a huge sculpture of monkey on the right and left side of the road...(it's a one way street) and your left just before the town you'll see the entrance.

Carvings...sculptures can be found all around Ubud. There are many wood carvings of animals, human performing rituals, well carved masks and carvings related to Buddhist and Hinduism. Some were really unique n weird looking. Prices quite reasonable.
There're plenty of shops in Ubud town that sell wood carvings. You can also find the similar wood carvings at Pasar Ubud which I believe sell them at a more reasonable price than the shops outside. However, if you walk around...n found workshop of wood carvings...you can get them at a more reasonable price there.

To those who like woven items...you can find it a lot here in Ubud...sold at shops along the street and also at Pasar Ubud. You can find woven baskets of many sizes...handbags, tissue box, place mats, jewellery box, cutleries organizer, food cover (tudung saji we call it in Malaysia) and others which I'm no so sure what to call them...

I believe this is one of the many things must do in Ubud...buy paintings. Ubud is the centre for arts as well. There're many artists here making beautiful paintings. One of which that amazed me were paintings of beautiful Balinese ladies (they're usually portait of a lady) with her hair tight on a bun with a flower on top of one of her ear...face well done...wearing only sarong and a belt made from plain cloth...nothing on the top (topless). According to some of the galleries these kind of paintings are classics...very rare now. Well, there're many more paintings to choose from...prices can be quite high depending on the sizes and quality of the paintings...but I guess work of art as such...we can't expect them to be sold so cheap either.
There're plenty of paintings galleries/shops/stalls selling paintings all around Ubud. In fact, on the way from Denpasar to Ubud...as you enter the district of Ubud...paintings shop are abundance on the left and right side of the road. You'll found many stalls at Pasar Ubud selling paintings as well.
