dreamland from above the cliff

the first time i went to dreamland was in 2001 when the place is still sleepy and not many people know it. the steps to go to the beach is also still not plastered, but just ground.
now, more and more people know about this place, because of its stunning breathtaking beach.

part of the road to get there is still offroad. the color of the ocean is turquoise, and it's a place for surfing. you also can swim, sunbathing or just get a massage.

come early, it's getting crowded during the day.

to get there? it's on your way to uluwatu temple, inside a housing complex.

Walking amongst the rocks
2 more images

When low tide comes around,
with a good pair of rubber shoes,
you can walk around from
the north to the west of the Bukit
observing sea creatures and shells.

In most areas,
there will be a combination of sand and rocks.

Where not,
it will be shallow enough to walk on the coral stones.

Tucked away coves with
little lagoon ponds offer a resting area.

You can check out the tides onthe tide chart web-site.

The Statue

An absolute must to do
while in the Bukit/Uluwatu area
is to visit the GWK park.

Located at Ungasan village,
GWK (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) is
the yet to be completed cultural theme park
set amidst 200 hectares of land.

This amazing cultural park,
has gone through disputes and disagreements,
and has been put on a stand hold.

Completion of Garuda Wisnu Kencana Monument

Despite the past problems,
one can still visit this beautiful park
which offers amazing views of the waistline
of Bali and on a clear day,
one can see the volcano can be seen.

As you enter the property,
on the left is the area where
the artist community was to be built,
and to be available to house artists
while participating in sculpture, painting,
ceramics, graphic, applied arts,
music, dance, drama, theatre, etc.

As you continue upwards,
on the right hand side is,
what was going to be the Exhibition Hall.

The space was to be used for industrial products
and trading from all over the world
within a space of 3868m2.

Stones that Speak

Up until now,
this space has never been used,
along with the International Convention Hall,
and the International Museum of World Art.

As you arrive to the car park,
on the left you have amazing views facing north,
of Bali.

To the southern side,
is the World Cultural Pavillion which,
today is being used for a couple of cafes,
an occasional outdoor classes and
for a few stalls that sell Bali souvenirs.

After the visit of the gardens,
one enters the limestone quarry
that was last mined in 1990.

In this area which,
can hold up to 10,000 people,
events such as concerts,, singing orchestras weddings, parties
have been held,
making it a unique experience.

It is a shame that
the original concept of the park
was put on a stand still over issues,
but it is definitely still a place to visit.

Dreamland Beach

Used to be a secluded beach and paradise for surfer. Now almost everybody knows of the place. But still it is a beautiful beach with very good waves. Not suitable for swimming though

To go there you follow the road to Jimbaran, go past the Garuda Wishnu Kencana and turn right at the Pecatu Housing Complex. There are some guards at the entrance who will check your car. Ask them for direction. Some of the tracks from there to the beach are still rough. The housing complex itself look desserted. You would need to pay at the gate to the local boys and then park your car. There are steps downhill toward the beach.

There are couple warungs which also offers basic accomodation.

interior of the chapel at tirtha bali

awe by the beauty of bali, many people decided to have their wedding on this island of gods. you can have your wedding in one of those claimed best resort in the world or by the beach. but there's a place designed for wedding. the place is tirtha bali.

it's located on the way to uluwatu temple, by the cliff with a stunning view to the ocean. designed by award-winning architect that designed four seasons resort in jimbaran, the place is the combination of balinese, modern and japanese style (the owner is japanese). tirtha means water in balinese (based from sancrit) and the place is really surrounded by a huge pond! the other awesome thing about this place is the chapel. it's made of glass so the background of the altar is ocean far below the cliff.

you can have your wedding here in balinese, western, or free style. if you want to come for site visit, you're welcome. as long as there's no wedding taking place, you can go around the area.

Uluwatu beach

Uluwatu offers very nice surfing, you have to drive for about 1-2 km and walk down some steps to reach the beach, on the cliffs above the beach you will find some restaurants and accomodations, there was a lot of surfers hanging around when we visited this place and it was a pleasure to look at them catching the big waves (some waves reach 2-3 meters!) - a very beautiful place!
