Passport Up To Date

by BesarRahasia

One of the requirements for entry into Indonesia is that your passport must have 6 months minimum validity, from the date you arrive in Indonesia. If it doesn't they won't let you in, and they will put you back onto the next available flight. It happenned recently to an Australian Couple, where the lady only had 5 Months and 2 Weeks left (in other words not enough by only 2 weeks ) before it expired. (apart from the corrupt immigration official, who tried to obtain $2,000 to make the problem dissapear, and who has since lost his job, but that's another story, and one thats been in all the papers so no problems with liable there!)along with all the hasstle and waiting in uncomfortable conditions), they were put on the next plane home. SOME HOLIDAY.

Is she or isn't she?

by shelnlin

Take extra care with your luggage while in Bali. Many people have been caught with illegal drugs found in their suitcases, handbags, and even Boogy bags. Schapelle Corby, a pretty Australian woman was caught up with 4.2 kgs and now faces the next 20 years in prison for an offence that she strongly says that she did not commit. Whether she is telling the truth or whether she has been framed is unsure but I do feel for this woman being trapped in a foreign jail day after day, night after night. If Schappelle did commit this crime, have we seen evidence of her suffering from withdrawl symptoms of the marijuana was found in her boogy board bag? There are so many things I would like to say about this case but I am urging all travellers who do go to Bali to be vigilant and take care of their belongings at all times. Bali is a wonderful place to visit but be careful especially at airports and...

Dang that Dengue Fever!!!

by balisunshine

Public officials are warning of a possible dengue fever epidemic in Asia for this year (2007).This past year, in Bali, there definitely was a rise of casesduring the rainy season. The Aedes aegypti mosquitothrives in the tropics withits mixture of warm weather and wet season. The warmer the temperaturethe greater the risk of a serious outbreak.Facts about Dengue Fever:-Denque fever is a flu like illness spread by an infected mosquito bite. These mosquitoes bite in the day time.-Four different but related viruses cause dengue fever. If you survive any one of them, you are immune to that virus for life. But there is evidence that you are more likely to die if infected again by any of the other three.-Although only a small percentage of dengue infections end up being fatal, there is no known cure.More than 1,000 people have already died this year in Indonesia alone.-The illness has spread rapidly...

More beware

by stedeb

If you are going to Bali to stay in a beach front resort down Tuban area be warned they are redeveloping all the beach front. At the moment it looks like a limestone quarry. they are building sea walls and breaks, limestoning all the front if you know the Dynasty front that was all black rock it is now limestone. Evdentually when it is all completed they will white sand it and turnit into a Nusa Dua style white sand beach front. The work starts at approx the Bali Garden and goes right along to the Patra. I know a lot of people will go just to have a bed directly on the beach for the crashing waves and tranquility you may not get that for a few more months. We were advised at least another year before completion. You can still walk along the beach without problems more an inconvenience.

Beware of monkeys

by Brighterstar

They are many places whereby monkeys are running loose eg. in Uluwatu. The place is scenic at sunset but the atmosphere can be spoilt because of the irrtiation of the monkeys. They can cause much nuisance like snatching away and breaking your glasses, pull away anthing they fancy eg, chains and even watches. You just cannot prevent them from doing so as they are swift and local custom is that you cannot hit the monkeys. You can only try to frighten them with a stick but they are too daring that it usually does not work.Still, it is a very nice place to visit especially in the evenings.

Beware the cheeky monkeys

by austarman

When you travel to the Ubud monkey forest or especially to the Uluwatu temple ,you have to watch your things. These monkeys can be very fast to take you camera or sunglasses or anything you are not protecting properly. I have seen monkeys smash a pair of sunglasses at the Uluwatu temple, but fortunately for the guy who owned them they weren't very expensive ones. The monkeys are fun to watch and feed as many tourists do, but they sometimes climb on you for food or grab whatever they can. You will notice how one of them climbed on my head in Ubud! Ouch sharp claws!

Money Changers

by Ubudian

Money changers can be found all over Bali. Unfortunately, not all of them are honest, and some can be down right crooks.PT Central Kuta, which has offices all throughout Bali is the most highly recommended and consistently honest money changing business in Bali. Most expats I know will only use PT Central Kuta. Expect slight daily fluctuations in the rupiah conversion rates, but over the past few years, this generally hovers within a few percentage points of 9,100 IDR to the US dollar. Additional tips:US Currency...bring only new, unfolded crisp bills. Series 1997 $100 notes are not accepted in Bali anywhere, or by anybody. They are highly counterfeited and thus not accepted here. If your cash is to be US, bring only the most recent series notes.ALWAYS count your money BEFORE leaving the counter of any money changer. Anyone can make an honest miscount error, but for the dishonest money...

Those Cute Monkeys May Just Kill You!

by Ubudian

AVOID UBUD MONKEY FOREST AND ANY OF THE HIGH TEMPLES WITH MONKEYS!All monkeys on Bali are macaques, which in dominant males, display a high degree of aggressiveness.Excerpted from U.S. Embassy Jakarta Medical BulletinsWhen a human primate is bitten or scratched by a macaque, we have three chief infectious disease concerns that you need to know about. The worse is:B VirusB virus is the low risk/high consequence issue about which we wish to provide you information. We admit up front to our harboring high hopes of your altering or, better yet, abandoning your typical tourist related behavior when around these creatures, whose behavior can place you directly in harm's way.Cercopithecine herpesvirus 1 (B virus) is enzootic in (makes itself at home among) monkeys of the genus Macaca. We are not talking here aboutorangutans, chimpanzees, gibbons or other non human primates, rather we refer...

NO Drugs...Don't Even Think About It!

by Ubudian

I’ve included this warning on my Ubud travel page, but it warrants repeating on the Bali travel page. Under NO CONDITION even think about bringing or purchasing ANY narcotics anywhere in Bali, or anywhere in Indonesia for that matter. This includes cannabis even in small amounts. The drug laws here are VERY strong, including death by firing squad, and there are plenty of foreign nationals languishing in the Kerobokan prison in Bali. In Kuta and other party areas of southern Bali, young touts may offer a joint or two, but chances are they are working with the police. Bali is intoxicating enough, and one can enjoy all sorts of alcoholic beverages if needed to unwind or just party.
