Dangerous Monkies in Uluwatu

by elainetan7906

My fren glasses has been taken by one of the monkey. They jump from the back and grap it very fast. After that incident happen, we have some local guys help to call the so called "helper" in the temple. They arrived very fast, and try to seduce the monkey with peanuts. Right after the monkey get the nuts, strightaway, the monkey throw the glasses down to the hill. Those "helper" are offer to help to retrieve the glasses from the mountain cliff which is really dangerous, and asking for RP300'000 (around USD33). After all, my fren agreed to paid as the glasses are expensive, and he cant really see without it. So we got those people looking for the glasses for us. And lucky enough, they got it, and we paid that money. After that incident, we have no mood to continue the journey up to the temple. We just take some pictures near the cliff, and leave the places. We see so many people's thing...

Count your cash after changing your money!

by longsanborn

When you wish to change your cash at the money changer, go to authorized and licensed money changers. They will give you the correct change at the latest Bankers exchange rates, and they will not try to cheat you out of a few thousands of Indonesian rupiahs. In any case, you still have to count your changed notes in front of the money changers.I had one bad experience when I tried to change my Malaysian Ringgit to Indonesian Rupiahs. I happened to go to a money changer in one of the souvenir shops that lined the Kuta streets. They displayed a very good exchange rate (no commission charged) and I thought I was getting a good deal. However, later I found out that I was cheated out of a few thousands of Rupiahs notes becos of the confusion with the number of zeros on the Indonesian Rupiahs (thousands vs. millions, etc.). I found out that I was short of cash when I tried to buy some stuffs...

Mischievious Monkey Business @ Uluwatu

by Wild_Orchid

Having paid 3,000 Rupiah to enter the temple grounds, I stopped for a minute to read the notice board's warnings on mischievious monkeys. I guess I was confident that no monkey would get the better of me, & that the warnings was just there to inform tourist to be careful. How wrong I was!Hang on tight. Upon the wall at the periphery of the cliff, there were a few monkeys, & the small ones were cute & had rather innocent faces. I stood next to the wall for my photo to be taken with the charming monkeys, & suddenly my daughter shouted out because the monkey had reached out to grab my pearl necklace. Instinctively, I moved away, but then there was a tug on my hair. A monkey again! Fortunately it was only a small monkey & it didn't pull hard enough to break my necklace. I quickly walked away and put my earrings, necklace & hairband safely into my handbag, and clutched on tightly to my...

Porterage at the Airport-they don't ask first

by Wild_Orchid

The sign at the Ngurah Rai Airport (near the baggage reclaim area) says 2,000 rupiahs for porterage. I am not sure if this means per bag, or per person. The thing that bugs me is this - they don't ask first ! After we had collected our bags from baggage reclaim, and went to queue to buy a coupon for the taxi, a couple of guys came over to help us with our bags, without us asking for their help. Assuming one of them was our taxi driver, we let them handle some of the bags. It was only when we were crossing the road from the airport towards the car park when the real taxi driver materialised and then we realised that the first guys were porters, and were not in fact "helping us"! Of course, it was too late by then. Once they loaded the bags onto the cab, they asked for payment. I didn't have any small change and pulled out RM2.00 (about 4,500 rupiahs) and they wouldn't leave until we gave...

How am i ment to drive on there roads????????

by hayley_69

When you come to Bali the first thing you will see and say to yourself, "My drivers going to have an accident." In Bali that never really happens as the major parts of Bali are always congested with traffic so if you in a car you will be fine, but if you on a motor bike just be careful as yes motorbikes as so smaller then a car they might have more of an accident. When i lived in Bali i had to learn by peole telling me how to drive so i thought id write some basic road rules that you should remember when you driving in Bali with either a HIRER car or MOTORBIKE:When on a road honking of the horn is natural but it doesn mean something. To tell other cars your coming: Honk once when coming behind some one or near someoneTo over take: Honk a few times so you are letting them know your coming over next to them to over take themHonking the horn over and over again: Really move out the way now...

Money Changers-Which One Should I Go To?????

by hayley_69

Always go to money changers that display No Commission.Always try to change AUD$100.00 bills (for aussies) as you get more.Make sure you recount your money straight away when they have finished counting it and givin it to you, never leave the shop without counting it, if you do they will not do anything.Look around, if you see heaps of people in a money changer and it looks good go in there, and give it a try.

Bali Water and Food.

by hayley_69

Water is everywhere in Bali but bare in mind Bali water will make u sick, known as BALI BELLY. Bali water is polluted even the mojority of balinese people dont drink it.All you need to do is go down to your local supermarket, Matahari's etc and buy a big bottle of water called safe for a little as Rp11,000. (about AUD$3.00 australian). When going out for food to a restaurant always choose wisely as they use there water to wash vege's etc, but because there being cooked well it doesnt matter.

Watch Out For The Crazy Monkey's!!!!

by hayley_69

When visting any places with monkeys especially The Monkey Forest just make sure nothing is hanging off you, eg: Earings, Sunglasses, Hats & any other loose articles which are easy to pull off.All Monkeys in Bali are very smart and know what to go for, and if they take something dont bother chasing them they are fast little runners.
