Buy ANYTHING and you will immediately attract a horde of aggressive touts and peddlars, indignant that you had not bought the item from them. Be prepared to be rudely harassed. Instead of feeling frustrated or caved in to them, use them against each other. I sliced off a big portion of the price for bargains by simply using their eagerness and aggressiveness against each other. Soon they will be bickering among themselves and showering you with lower prices or simply allowing you a breather to escape! Have patience and be willing to exploit the weakness of man on them!

There are shops on the grounds of the temples. And there are sellers going after visitors along the entrance. Haggle like crazy!
What to buy: Lava stone statues and images are a good buy here. There are some at Prambanan but not as many choices as in Borobudur. Seriously, haggle like crazy! The best time to buy is early in the morning when they just opened and you're their first customer.
