The site of Borobudur is actually located about 45 minutes drive from central Yogyakarta. If you want to take a taxi to Borobudur get your hotel to call and arrange transport and to also negotiate the price. A taxi ride for the journey should cost no more then 150,000 Rupiah ($16 USD) each way. Our taxi cost 100,000 to Borobudur and 150,000 back into Yogyakarta.

We flew to Adisujipto airport from Denpasar in Mandala Airlines, the price was cheaper than other airlines. The prices for the one day tour to Borobudur in Bali were really expensive (250 to 300$), so we decided to travel by ourselves, it was right; at the exit of the airport we found a small local tour operator that gave us a 10 hours tour visiting Borobudur, a Yogyakarta city visit and Prambanan for just 45$. The guide was really friendly and nice, we had a comfortable small bus just for us, and we stopped wherever we wanted. We highly recommend this option.

The bus terminal is opposite the market. If you can find the market, you can find the terminal. We walked from Manohara hotel to the bus terminal. From the direction we came from, it's actually hidden behind a row of shop houses. At the end of the road, the market on our left, and the bus terminal is on the right.
It's 15,000 rp to Jogja per person. We were told by another group of tourists that it's a good price. Although according to the Lonely Planet, it's 5000 - but it may be an old edition... but I guess it's still cheaper than taxi.
Be warned, the bus could get crowded, very.

Borobudur can be reach indirectly by plane or by Train and directly by Bus. One can fly by Airlines from Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya or Mataram to Yogyakarta. The flight from Jakarta to Yogyakarta take about 50 minutes.
From Yogyakarta one can take a bus, taxi, rent a car or by one day package tour which arrange by travel agents in Yogyakarta. From Yogya by Bus is a convenience one, take a bus with the destination to Yogyakarta's JOMBOR TERMINAL, then from here one can take a bus with the route directly to Borobudur, it was a cheap one and you can ask the people where one must go to take the route I was mention above

Borobudu is an hour from Yogyakarta, at the edge of a tiny Borobudur Village, where the inhabitants are mainly farmers and souvenir vendors. You'll be driven through small towns and rice fields before you reach this place. But who cares really? It'll probably be pitch dark if you're here on the sunrise tour. Save your sanity and charter a private car or join a tour group for pete's sake. It'll cost you less than $10 and save you the hassle of squeezing into a bus with a live chicken.

Most visitors go to Borobudur from Yogya by tour bus. Any of the hotels will make arrangements for you. You can also hire a car or motorcycle and drive yourself.
There is also a way to get there on the public bus. a taxi is probably the better way to go if there are only a couple people going.
We had the Sheraton make arrangements for us and we were taken there by their van and driver.

We drove to Borobudur by bus along the road from Semarang. The port town of Semarang was only around 100 km's away but the journey took more then 3 hours even with a police escort. So ensure you leave ample of time to travel along a very busy road!

Normally, I try to do all the visits on my own but this time we went with a travel agnecy from Yogyakarta.
I wasn't sure I'd get in Borobudur at time (6 am) to see the sunrise and took safety first.
We paid 30.000 rps per person and got transport and breakfast there.
We started at 5 am and returned at 10.300 am
