Bus pulled half way up

It happened on the winding road through the chalk hills between Pati and Purwodadi. We had to stop because they were trying to pull a bus on the road. Trying to, because the last we saw of it one of the front wheels was still stuck in the gutter.

How did the bus get there? It must have missed the bend coming downhill, plunging one-and-a-half meter deep on a cemented floor as is used for drying rice.

It's easily found on your way to Gunungrowo Indah lake, but rather disappointing: the swimming pool is closed 'awaiting an investor'. Next to the pool is the historic source Sendang Sani. A warden readily turns up to show you the place, where reportedly Sunan Kalijogo was slighted when his servants took water from the source before he himself did. Therefore he punished them by turning them into turtles by the strenght of his word alone. The turtles can be seen coming up for air from time to time.
In Maulid month a procession is held here.

Location: Tamansari village, Tlogowungu district, Pati regency.

Directions: From Pati town square take the road direction Gombong for about 4 km north to Tamansari village past a bridge. In the centre of he village turn right, where you reach Sendang Sani after only few 100 m. No signs here!

Majapahit ceremonial door

In Rendole village only 3 km from Pati a wonderfully preserved ceremonial door is on display. It is said to date from the Majapahit era (14th century). At least the carvings are in the Majapahit style.
The story goes that a certain Kebo Nyabrang was carrying the door to the court of Sunan Muria, in an effort to be acknowledged as his – the sunan's – son. However, when Kebo Nyabrang had got as far as Rendole village, his strength gave out. He could not go any further and remained at the spot watching over the door until the end of his days.

We found the story at the Pati government website: http://www.pati.go.id/potensi/potensi.php. Unfortunately in Rendole village no one was around to give more information, e.g. to explain the images carved on the door. The site is fenced in, the door was locked, and no juru kunci (warden) available to open up. The door just stands there under an awning... waiting for someone to carry it to its destination?

Address: Rendole village, Margorejo district, Pati regency.

Directions: Visit Rendole village as just a side-trip when going to Gunungrowo Indah irrigation lake. From Pati town square follow the signs north direction Gembong. After 3 km, in Rendole village, turn right in front of the Primary School (Sekolah Dasar). The door is just 50 m into this village road.
