Indonesian restaurants: prices meals and drinks

by kilat

What prices can you expect in Java? A meal will cost in an Indonesian restaurant or a basic Indonesian hotel between 7.000 and 15.000 Rp. Cola/fanta/milk/coffee/tea will cost between 2.500 and 6.000 Rp. If you go to a restaurant for tourists or a western styled hotel, you might pay twice as much (or more). If the rooms are more expensive, the food is more expensive too. (Prices in 2008).Notice: nasi (nasi putih)= white rice, nasi goreng = baked rice, ayam = chicken, eg = telur, salt = garam, baked = goreng, bread = roti, soup = soto, coffee = kopi, tea = teh, sweet = manis, with suger/milk = pakai gula/susu, without sugar/milk/ice = tanpa gula/susu/es.

rumah makan TIP TOP: good real Indonesian meals

by kilat

Good traditional Indonesian meals, the locals like to go to this restaurant. It looks simpel, but the food is very good. The restaurant is very clean. The meals are not very spicy (because it is Javanese, not Padang food). You can have your breakfast, lunch and diner here, because it is open every day from 07.00 - 20.30 (tuesdays from 07.00-14.00). They really close at 20.30, so you have to eat early! You can choose from the card: all kinds of nasi, bakmie, mie, bread. They also serve the local speciality, called "gudeg". Or go to the buffet (see foto), where you pick you own plate and put what ever you like on it yourself. Don't forget to take the rice, behind the plates. You can even order a meal for more people to take away (called: nasi box, see foto). Besides that, there is a very good choice of juices. The prices are average for an Indonesian restaurant, and cheap compared to...
