Take a train from Yogykarta to Solo vv is more convenient than by Bus, it takes about one hour with the fare of IDR, 9,000,- ( nine thousand rupiah). Along the journey, One can see a beautiful panorama at the both side of the train, a paddy/rice field and a wonderful view twin mountains "MERAPI" and active volcano and MERBABU in a faraway distance at the north side.
If you reach Solo you'd better get off at Purwosari Train station, it was on the Solo main street 'Slamet ryadi', from here take a Lane "A" Bus with the destination to Keraton(Palace) Solo

    From Singapore to Solo

by bpacker Updated Mar 21, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Travelling is a breeze from Singapore to Solo. Just hop on to Silkair from Changi Airport and it'll take you to Solo's Adisumarmo International Airport in slightly less than 2hours. Check out the website below for deals. The other international airline that flies to Solo is AirAsia(from Kuala Lumpur).

Since Adisumarmo International Airport is just 10 km north of town, it's relatively easy to get to town. Just approach buy a cab ticket from a ticket shelter and you will be assigned to a registered taxi. It's also possible to get a cab from here to Yogya since the distance between Yogyakarta and Solo is only 60km apart.

To Solo from Yogjakarta only takes 1.5 hours drive, so we hired a car with driver and petrol included, all for 550,000 rupiah for 10hours. We started our journey to Solo at 8am and was pretty excited to visit Solo.

A toyota Avanza, just nice for 5 persons to sit, I enjoyed sitting behind and take pictures.

Taksi or Taxi is eadily available from the airport. Just turn left after exiting the airport building. You will see a Taksi Angkasa counter, not far from the Money Exchange.

The price per trip is fixed. You have to pay at the counter and get your voucher.
Solo Airport to Yogyakarta - Rp 160,000
Solo Airport to Candi Sukuh - Rp 180,000

Only 4 person is allowed per car. Since there were 5 of us. We had to hire two taxis to Candi Sukuh as we wanted to visit it first before checking into our hotel at Yogyakarta. The taxi drivers waited for us at the candi and a trip from Candi Sukuh to Yogyakarta - Rp 340,000 per car.

We had a Business and had lots of leg space. Fortunately for m, I could smoke.
I suppose it didn't disturb other people because all the windows were opened.

    Yogya-Solo v.v. by bus

    by theo1006 Updated Oct 27, 2010

You can of course take a regular airconditioned (so-called PATAS) bus from Yogya to Solo. But there is a more comfortable option, only slightly more expensive.

The Joglosemar bus company offers a three times daily service in both directions.
As of July 2010: departure Yogya-Solo 7 am, noon and 6 pm; Solo-Yogya 10 am, 4 pm and 8 pm.
The seats are more comfortable and the price includes a snack and a bottle of water.
The bus will take in passengers at one of several pickup points, including a few major hotels.

Order your ticket at Joglosemar's town office, at one of the agents or through your hotel.
When ordering inquire about the most convenient pickup point and the time you should be ready there.

    The town offices are:
Yogyakarta Town Office, Jalan Magelang km 5.6, phone: 0274-623700.
Solo Town Office, Jalan Slamet Riyadi 361 (at Hotel Arini), phone: 0271 - 743087, 7050441.

For agents' adresses and phone numbers, as well as the latest schedules, see the website.

    Yogya-Solo v.v. by train

Prameks schedule airport to Yogya city
    1 more image

As per March 2010 the so-called Prameks train runs fifteen times daily between Yogyakarta and Solo. Although Prameks is short for Prambanan Ekspres, only two of these trips make a stop at Prambanan; these are called the Prameks Wisata (Tourist Prameks). Most of the trains are of the economy type, but three daily have executive class.

With this frequency the train is a good option for a day trip to Solo from Yogya. Travel time is about an hour. You can always get on the train at the airport (Maguwo station) or at Lempuyangan station, sometimes also at Tugu station.

Pictures: the Prameks schedules at Maguwo station (i.e. Yogya airport).

Airport As Seen From The Runway
    3 more images

We took AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Solo. The flight took about 2 hours. We arrived at the Solo tiny airport. After getting of the plane we were ushered to a long into the airport building. Why long queue? There were only two immigration officers to process a plane load of passengers! So, nothing much we could do except wait patiently in queue.

I was told they only handle about 5 flights per day. They actually switched off all the light and chase everyone out after all passengers had their passports stamped!

The same long queue occured at out-going immigration check too. So, please arrive early at the airport to avoid missing your flight out.
