Yogyakarta airport to Yogyakarta north: taxi Kijang (for driver + 4 persons and luggage): 70.000 Rp.Taxi Kijang arranged by hotel in Yogyakarta, from Yogyakarta north to Yogyakarta airport: 50.000 Rp.Taxi in Yogyakarta: get / let someone call a taxi with a meter, about 10.000 Rp. for a short distance.Becak in Yogyakarta: 5.000-10.000 Rp. per becak (1 or 2 persons). Becakdrivers have a difficult live. If you want to help them a little bit: negotiate first but give them afterwards more than you agree. Andong (horse + wagon) for 4 people from Yogyakarta north to Keraton (in the south): 30.000 Rp.Taxi Kijang (driver + 4 persons + luggage) for one day, arranged by hotel in Yogyakarta: 400.000 Rp., petrol included. Car Hire

by bkarjee

If one hires the vehicle for one day, please understand that the vehicle is available to you for just 8-10 hrs. For every additional 1 hour, they will charge IDR 40-50 K. But if you hire this vehicle for 3-4 days (which I did), you need to do a good level of negotiations to keep the cost as low as possible. In my case, I negotiated with Kresna Travels, located at Pravirotaman Street at Yogyakarta to settle for the rate of IDR 400 K per day, and this would include petrol cost, drivers food and lodging.

All the places are very well connected by road. Public buses are the best options if looking for budget travelling. Otherwise, one can book a MPV like Mitsubisihi Grandis/Toyota Kijang for as low as IDR 400 K per day. These vehicles are 7-seater MPVs and quite comfortable, with aircon, and a very good suspension system to absorb the shocks of rough patches of road in interior roads. The ride is smooth. Recently, there was an upward revision of the petrol prices (the prices more then doubled to IDR 4500 per liter of petrol) and hence the hiring cost of these vehicles has escalated. Earlier, the same vehicle could have been hired for as low as IDR 300K with a driver. Just for information, the vehicles come with a driver, who in most of the cases is also a good travel guide and speaks English (or at least understands English well and speaks a bit of it) well. So if you dont understand...
