The most popular form of transport in Wonosobo is a mini yellow bus called an "Angkutan". It's more of a van with benches placed on them. A ride on these things cost about 2000Rp.

Note:I have to thank the staff of Hotel Kresna for telling me patiently how to get to Solo from Wonosobo by bus. They came prepared with approximations of bus fares, travel tips and even a map of SOLO. I was impressed. I will forward their kindness and publish this tip.

By mini bus, 2000Rp
Wonosobo Bus Terminal->Bawen
By a big rambling bus , 20,000Rp

*Wonosobo Bus Terminal is quite a distance away from the Town Central. You need to take a mini yellow bus to get there.

Note: Now, if you have any romantic ideas of travelling in Central Java by bus, don't read this. The honest crap that I've put up might dispel all the romantic notions you have and perhaps discourage you from taking an economy bus in Indonesia. If you still decide to go ahead with it, bravo, brave traveller! Adventure is your game.
The best way to get to the highland village of Wonosobo from Yogya is, of course, by a high-powered 4by4 Jeep. I initially thought of doing so but the thought of footing 40USD per vehicle put me off, especially when I knew that it would cost me only 3USD to travel there by bus! So in the name of adventure, I took the bus route and travelled 151km by road. From Yogya to Wonosobo via Magelang.
It was fairly interesting in the beginning as the scenary was beautiful and we were entertained at every stop with roaming buskers strumming the ukulele and salesmen selling chocolates and banana-leafed snacks. But as the journey dragged on, it became ardous. Especially so when the bus driver decided to pack the bus till bursting point and drive like Michael Schumacher in heavy torrential rain! Owing to the lack of space, I was forced to put my 10kg backpack on my lap and I sat beside a sqwaking chicken.
My bus adventure had become a fowl nightmare (pun intended)
By the time I reached Wonosobo, I had lost enough sanity to check into a 4* hotel. I slept for a long time after that.
Yogya-> Terminal Bus Jombor (Yogya)
Take #15 from Jl. Prawirotaman. North of Yogya.
Bus Fare is 3500Rp but I was charged 5000Rp.
Jombor Bus Terminal->Magelang Bus Terminal
Toll Fare in Jombor.(100Rp per person)
Bus Fare (about 12,000Rp)
Magelang->Wonosobo
Bus Fare (about 20,000Rp)
Wonosobo Bus Terminal->Wonosobo Town Central
Mini Bus Fare was 2000Rp but I was charged 10,000Rp.

There are lot of public buses running between Wonosobo and Dieng Village, that cover the distance in one hour. They are minibuses and charge around IDR 5K. The buses are non aircon, but ride is comfortable. They will stop at all places, whereever people sign to stop. This is the way the local transport system operates and nobody is in a hurry to reach destination. Try to get a window seat on the right hand side in order to get a good view of the scenary outside.

Wonosobo is accessable by bus and small bus. But using minibus also cool. Especially since they have door to door service to pick up the passenger. And I use this method since I was teenager. Faster and not hectic inside. They're still run to the destination, even only 1 - 2 passengers in it!!!
There are several familar and famous minibus travel to Wonosobo [base on Jogjakarta and Magelang]:
~ Dyni Travel: Jalan Veteran [Sudagaran] No 11
~ Rahayu Travel: 0286 - 321217
~ Rama Sakti Travel : 0286 321236
Per trip Rp 22,000
