All the way across the riverside there are pile houses. It is a complete city. The moment whe were there it was dry season and the water was really low. But that changes quickly after some rain.
You will find small shops , churches , ....
And on the river you will see floating houses as well. (picture)

If you are a caucasian white male from about 1,90 meter YOU will become the major tourist attraction in town. Don't freak out if they touch you on the bus , or where ever. No harm in it. Most times they strike with a finger along you leg or arm.
If you are a blond??? haha go and find out.
The kalimantese must be the smallest people on the archipelago Indonesia.
A must do activity
Since it was NANKA (jack fruit) season you could get them everywhere. It taste a bit like peach and has a really warm overwhelming smell. It contains lots of piths with a soft fleshy part around it.

I didn't exactly new how to call this part. It is more open and it has wide concrete streets.
A lot of buildings are official ones , like the house of the governor...
You will also find the head office of the bni Bank.
We also found this dayak-longhousemuseum. But we didn't get in once.
So I can't tell you something usefull about it.

To discribe Palanka raya , I have to divide it into three parts.
-the center : this contains the covered marked and the markeds around the streets. The covered marked is a smelly jungle of small alleys. You can find food , clothes , kitchenware....fruit , dried fish. It is broiling hot inhere and you can Imagen the smell when the waist is trown into the alleys. (but be brave and go in , quit an adventure)
