  • Visit to Orang Utan conservation

    Palangkaraya Things to Do

Ride a small canoe along the quiet river and meet a couple of local people coming back from fishing to the ridges of the conservation. Watch the dropping of Orang Utan foods and it's "fiesta" time for these orangutans.

  • We want to be white....

    Palangkaraya Local Customs

For us it is very strange to see females but males as well with a thick layer of cream on their face.Well they don't want a suntanned colour. THey want to be as white as possible. So people make a mixture of ricewater and put it on their face when they leave the house for shopping. The people who can allow it buy products like the one shown in the...

We stumbled into the restaurant in November 2009 on our way to Pangkalan Bun. But it turned out to be a good choice as this small yet clean restaurant offers a lot of Local delicacies. My general comments to food in Kalimantan: go for the local fishes. It's delicious!!!
This restaurant offers grilled fishes (from Kalimantan river) such as Patin, Lais, Baung (not really recommended despite its excellent taste if you like fish without bones), Haruan, Jelawat, Pepuyu and Kalabau. The other cooking style is pepesan: fish or eggs of the fish wrapped in banana leaf, grilled or steamed)..
This place also offers typical vegetable dishes such as sayur santan, sayur nangka, sayur tumbukan daun singkong..
The price is overly cheap.. For three persons in November 09, we paid for Rp 61,000 (or 6 USD)..Wherelse could you get cheaper yet decent food...

Favorite Dish: I really enjoy my grilled patin.. The fat from the fish was so yummy..

    Pangkalanbuun Transportation

It costs about Rp 500,000 (November 2009) to rent a speedboat full day to visit camp leakey. On the way, you could ask the driver to stop by for spots to look closer at the primates. If your lucky, you may find them on the trees along the river..My trip was arranged by a friend, but it should be easy to rent a boat in the Kumai harbor. Just ask...
